    Steve Spears

    @Lazer Rocket I don’t think he was routing against the Steelers he just don’t like what’s going on there;Him&Ben didn’t see eye to eye on things but that happens IF him &Ben could get along what a awesome combo that would be Hines plyed Qb in college &was BEAST he knows offense plays anyone better than what we got NOW I’m not thrilled with Tomlin either but it is what it is;

bring an offensive coordinator with greater idea greater conviction, because Tomlin’s ideas run out

    C001Silk

The HC in Pittsburgh doesn’t call plays. Just ignorance! We need an experienced OL coach and WR Coach.

    mike collins

@C001Silk – Tomlin doesn’t call every play but he does step in for some and he’s said so much in interviews. The real problem with Tomlin and the offensive play calling isn’t the specific call, rather, the trend of Fichtner getting away from the running game so quickly–a win over the Bills would’ve likely been a big step to getting into the playoffs and it was botched schematically having Hodges throw for 38 times to just 14 rushing attempts goes beyond the OC. Is it too much to the think Tomlin could’ve looked over and said, “Hey Randy, run the ball more!”? Really, 38 times in a game never more than a possession apart with a QB that didn’t even make the initial practice squad? It was just a couple weeks prior where Tomlin was saying that he just needed a QB that was “not going to kill us” and then he puts the whole game on his shoulders.

I certainly put more blame on the OC, but let’s not act like Tomlin didn’t watch it all happen sitting idly by.

    C001Silk

mike collins read your original comment, the HC in Pittsburgh never call offensive plays. He only decides weather to go on fourth down or tell the OC to dial up a run or pass in certain situations. That has only happened nine times in 2019. So how is the HC nine ideas out of over 300 running out.

    mike collins

@C001Silk – you’re confused–the original comment was made by another.

As for the spirit of the discussion–we agree that Tomlin only makes situational play calling and decisions. The problem is that you leave there with this matter of fact position as if that isn’t the problem.

The limitation of Tomlin to only decide whether to go for it or not or to run vs pass at specific times is a limitation that he’s put on himself. Again, I don’t want him with the clipboard calling every play or even a series of plays, rather, just to tell the OC to find a better balance of run vs pass when they decided as a coaching staff and front office that the original 53 man roster, nor the practice squad, would not include Hodges… and then they put the whole game and playoff hopes on his shoulders just to watch it dash away to the tune of 4 INTS.

That was no exception–Fichtner often abandons the run if the RBs don’t get off to a great start and that was whether it was Big Ben or an un-drafted rookie. Tomlin had many times to evaluate the OC’s many game plans and execution and give his thoughts and needed criticism along with follow-ups. That’s just the basics of a HC overseeing his coordinators.

I could take it a step further with the assertion that Tomlin interferes based on emotion (fourth downs, goal line situations, fakes) rather than looking at the game plan and seeing it thru. There seems to be a great ineptitude with the OC and a lack of accountability by his HC whether it be game to game or by portions of the game to portions of the game… I’m not asserting that the HC be concerned about specific play followed by specific play.

The 2019 season was lackluster

    TeddyBelcher 4K Ultra wide 21:9

but the best part was when ben pretended to get hurt because he wanted surgery

    Steve Kosak

Steelers are going to win the super bowl next season

Postive Thoughts

7 rings on the way

antonie jackson

All honesty!! Ben needs to loose weight! Looked like he gained at least 20lbs this season. Just image what he can do..

    Lazer Rocket

ITS JUST IN HIS FACEEEE BRO ITS 👌👌!!! 🤣🤣🤣

drl15son

Mason Rudolph needs to move around in the pocket more and play like he wants to win. Get rid of James Conner and Ju Ju smith Schuster if he can’t hold on to the ball.

    Ryan Maliek

drl15son Connor is still really cheap since he’s on rookie deal. Might as well keep him as backup since his injury issues will keep him from getting any real interest.

    mike collins

@Ryan Maliek – exactly! it’s a salary cap league and he’s worth the risk… I’d keep Juju too at a $1.3M cap hit–also, we didn’t really seen him with an NFL quality QB this past season so no reason to give up on the dude after seeing him with MR and Hodges.

IPushHard

PLEASE bring in a new OC???? PLEASE? You saw the 2019 play calling, right? We cannot successfully continue into the 2020 season with that absolutely inane nonsense. The guy was a QB Coach and became the OC because Ben was the real OC. Ben gets hurt and we are left with no QB coach and an unqualified guy at OC.
Wonder what was wrong with the offense in 2019? For a large part of it…Look no further than the OC. Either let him return to being the QB coach or let him go completely.
Thats how it has to be.

ivmurk21
