I’m only 21 so I can’t relate to the 90s stuff, but one of my firmest Vikings memories is the Blair Walsh missed field goal against the Seahawks

I enjoyed your Viking greatest playoff game conversation. As an older Viking fan with memories back to 1968 I would add these games to your list:

1) The 1969 Rams vs Vikings. It was a stressful slug fest. Joe Kapp led the comeback in the second half and the Purple People Eaters made some big plays — Carl Eller sacked league MVP, Roman Gabriel, for a safety and Alan Page killed the Rams final drive with an interception.

2) The 1969 NFL Championship against the Browns was more like a party celebration after the nail biter against the Rams. The Vikings dominated throughout and as you watched the excitement built, knowing we were going to the Super Bowl for the first time. It was an incredible feeling.

3) The 1973 NFC Championship against the Cowboys was a great game. The Cowboys had knocked the Vikings out of the playoffs in the first round in 1971. Going to Dallas to defeat the Cowboys with Tarkenton at the helm and the Vikings’ Purple Gang frustrating Coach Landry and Roger Staubach all day was a great victory to get the Vikings back to the Super Bowl.

4 and 5) The 1974 and 1976 NFC Championship victories over the talented Los Angeles Rams teams also had that joyous feeling in knowing we were going back to the Super Bowl. The Vikings weathered the frozen Metropolitan Stadium well to make the necessary big plays, while the Rams stumbled at times.

6) The 1975 defeat to the Cowboys was a gut punch. Many on the Vikings thought it was the greatest Viking team. The Refereeing in the final drive was scandalous. The fourth down Drew Pearson sideline catch was out of bounds. That play called correctly would have sealed the victory. Then came one of the worst refereed plays in NFL history. The “Hail Mary” touchdown Staubach to Pearson. First a blatant holding call was missed directly in front of Staubach, the stunting Viking lineman had a clear shot at Staubach only to be tackled to the ground by the Cowboy lineman, and then came Drew Pearson’s obvious push off of Viking cornerback Nate Wright that put him off his feet flying forward to the ground. I was on Christmas Holiday watching the game with a cousin who was a die hard Rams fan. Boy did he rub it in when I sat shocked at the Viking’s defeat.

7) The 1977 victory over the Rams in the Los Angeles Coliseum mud slop was a memorable playoff victory. Tarkenton had broken his leg during the season. Backup Bob Lee quarterbacked the underdog Vikings to the “Mud Bowl” victory.

8) The 1987 wild card Vikings upset over the 49ers in San Francisco was great fun to watch. Wide receiver Anthony Carter and quarterback Wade Wilson put on a show in San Francisco. The defensive Viking line led by Chris Doleman and Keith Millard dominated. This Vikings team dramatically peaked at the right time upsetting the Saints and 49ers only to fall short of the Super Bowl at the Washington Redskins goal line in the waning seconds.

Thanks for the fun Vikings show of great playoff memories. Skol 2023!

The Minneapolis Miracle is great but it’s in the Divisional round. The 1998 miss is more unforgettable to me because 1.) It locked up the Super Bowl 2.) Gary hadn’t missed all season 3.) That was the best Vikings team ever and was the best team in the NFL it should not have ended like that it’s the greatest team ever to not reach the Super Bowl. The 2017 Vikings were the 4th or 5th best team in NFL. It was incredible what happened but I will never forget the disappointment of 98 IM STILL IN SHOCK. 09 Favre I thought that team could have won it all and was our year as well. Vikings history hurts man Blair Walsh 1983 then 0-4 in Super Bowl not to mention the push off on the Hail Mary with Staubach and Cowboys. Moss moons Lambeau and Kirk to Thielen down in New Orleans were great games we won as well.
