Some thoughts on Steichen saying he’s calling plays this year and had been calling plays since halfway through last year:

I loved that Sirianni was humble enough to not let his ego get in the way of what he thought was better for the team. While Steichen didn’t have a ton of play calling experience leading up to last season he still had more than Sirianni did and after we struggled with not just the playcalling, but also the execution it was good to see Nick hand over the reigns, so he could focus in more on coaching his players and coaches and having a wider view on game days to manage everything. I don’t wanna hate on Nick, but those first 7 weeks before the Lions game were rough and just like Gannon he was a first time play caller, so I think both should be cut some slack there. I think part of Doug’s downfall was his stubbornness and it seems like Nick has a good understanding that being flexible and ready to adjust when needed is crucial in being a great HC. Now, would it be nice if Sirianni was a top notch play caller cause offensive coordinators can be hired away? Sure. But, from what Shane said at his presser its gonna be a collaborative effort and if Nick wants a certain play called in the moment, then he’s gonna listen to his HC and call that play. I also like this cause it keeps the continuity of the same play caller for Jalen Hurts from last year. Like you said this is gonna free up Sirianni a lot to be more hands on elsewhere on game day which isn’t a bad thing by any means.

Chargers fans told us Shane Steichen sucked, but they also told us Frank Reich sucked and look how that turned out. Frank was crucial in helping us win a SB and he’s done a great job with whatever QB he’s been handed in Indy whether they are back-up caliber like Brissett, an old man like Rivers, or a QB coming off his worst season of his career like Wentz. I really liked the job Steichen did with the play calling when he took over and think he deserves a lot of credit for it and I’m really interested to see how he can build on that going into year 2 and what that will mean for Jalen Hurts who hasn’t had the same play caller 2 years in a row since dating back to high school which Steichen also mentioned at his presser.

Really excited for this upcoming season and what’s in store for this team! Fly Eagles Fly! πŸ¦…
