Sean McDermott: “Good To Get A Win” | Buffalo Bills Win 34-31 Over Miami Dolphins In Wild Card

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott addressed the media following the 34-31 playoff victory over the Miami Dolphins. Topics include: limiting turnovers, taking time outs late in the game, the contributions from the rookie class in their first playoff game, the team coming together after everything that has happened this season, limiting explosive plays, and what it was like seeing Damar Hamlin in the building on Saturday.

7 sacks? Josh under pressure all day..No meaningful run game? And not 1 question about the O line😖

    Dave Buffalo Operator

MIA was blitzing on every snap AND bringing Xtra men.

    Travis Bickle

@Dave Buffalo Operator Well aren’t coaches supposed to adjust? Isn’t that their job

    Adam Ant

@Dave Buffalo Operator And Dorsey, as usual, refused to make any adjustments

    King & Demo

They did adjust, that’s how they got those big plays. But it’s NFL football. The other team is going to win some downs too. At the end of the day, The Bills were the better team and won. Yeah, they got some things they need to clean up. But they’ll be fine.

    Big mike

O line is not good at all honestly and Dorsey needs to wake up

Jon Elbe

Horrible timeouts in second half Sean!

    X P

I was mad at first when they happened too but the more I thought about it I realized that the whistle was blown on both those plays and there’s no guarantee that we get those stops

T.B. Player

The only time I feel the Bills might win it all is if they’re up by 4 touchdowns, 2 minutes left, and the other team has no timeouts in the Super Bowl itself.

    Adam Warlock

Same here. They keep making the same mistakes over and over again and they keep saying they’ll learn from them…. This win was so empty that it wasnt much better than a loss.

    T.B. Player

    @Adam Warlock
Indeed. Don’t know how old you are, but I’ve been following the Bills since they played at the War Memorial Stadium. Making the playoffs, or winning the division, or winning the conference, none of those interests me. In fact, I don’t even watch them anymore. I just find out after if they win or loose. I guess after 4 straight Super Bowl losses, I’m just jaded to the point I don’t get on the hype train.

    Adam Warlock

@T.B. Player I quit watching football altogether after their last loss to the Cowboys in the Super Bowl,. Just started watching it again this season. Looks like I’ll be quitting again soon. They look so disorganized. Worse from game to game.

Chris Morris

All you jaded folks can keep your negative energy to yourselves that’s a good win against a talented division opponent that had nothing to lose because everyone told them they would get blown out. Mistakes will be corrected and this team has won 8 straight games leave your pain in the past where it belongs and put love and positivity out in the universe for our boys!

    WantSumCheese

@Adam Warlock Everyone keeps talking about the 3rd string quarterback as if he was the only Dolphin player. News flash, this is a divisional rivalry in the playoffs. Both teams are hungry. I expected a close game, not a blow out. At the end of the day, a win is a win. No one is going to look back at the Bills’ record and say they only won by 3 points. Point is that they won, need to make adjustments and prepare for the next game. GO BILLS!

    D Yates

Hey Chris, I think everyone is allowed to have an opinion, right? Go back to the LAST nine or so press conferences after the games, and you’ll hear Sean saying the same line about “We have to do a better job at ……..” so, I guess we’ve been though this. Mistakes will be corrected? So, why weren’t those same “mistakes” corrected the past nine weeks? Negative or not, I am someone who looks at things as they are, and if it stinks I’m going to say something stinks, like this play calling and zone defenses with NO blitzing. Miami knew every play that was coming and they played a back up quarterback who had NO problem moving the ball on Frasier’s defense – even successfully converting fourth downs, which is UNACCEPTABLE in a playoff game, and I’m calling that out. That’s okay, isn’t it?

    Bobby Gray

@Dutch Flats we’ll just have to see won’t we

    Adam Warlock

@X P I’ve been a Bills fan since the ’70s. But they have to earn my loyalty. Josh is good. But he performs better when he is forced to make reckless plays. Oh, and that offensive line is just horrible. Did you even watch the game? search josh allen fumble on youtube and watch the offensive line. The only one making any attempt to recover the ball was Singletary. Dawkins made a little effort, but end up just turning around and pulled up his pants.

    Adam Ant

That’s a win by 3 against a 3rd string QB at home lol. It’s not negativity; it’s reality. This team needs to shape up from coaches to players.

zType

W is a W. Coach knows this, BUT, to win it all we need to cut down on the mental mistakes on both the coaches part and players. Hopefully Micah Hyde comes back next week for Cinci!

eddie illz

I’m happy we playing against the bengals maybe it will woke y’all up and play with a chip on y’all shoulder and stop all this emotional stuff y’all bring on the field

Karen Jasinski

Any given Sunday… any predictable game can go sideways … remember that. Stay humble no matter who you root for. ❤️💙🏈

    Adam Warlock

If you know anything about football, you’d know that the Bill have been going back to the same bad habits way too many times. Then they have the nerve to say they learn from their mistakes….then they go back to doing them. Wash and rinse.

    Darlinda Staples

    O-line needs to improve

Tim MacPherson

can you see the stress on this man’s face? we have such a great coach, but that job… the stress must be incredible.

    Adam Ant

I’d say good, but not great

John Barnes

Been sayn clean up the sloppiness all yr but @ this point thats who they are!!! Just Win Baby!!! Go Bills

    Beast_e55_amg

They’re motto this year has been find a way. Stick with it. Hasn’t been a clean and dominating season, it’s been scratching and clawing to find a way to win. We got this!

Largemouth Hunter

For a Bills game this was very Sub Par. Too many tip drills , poor use of time outs. Second half Josh looked confused on many situations.

Nerdimus Maximus

I think the most frustrating part of yesterday’s game was the play calling…. two bombs to Gabe Davis missed, then sack for a loss 3 and out late in the fourth quarter when bleeding the clock was needed. Dorsey fuc*in’ up??

    Todd Sheldon

I agree 100% I was like you just wasted a total set of down by long bombing it!!

    Eric Sherman

Agreed. It seems to be part of a larger issue with Dorsey. I get that he has a Ferrari in Allen and wants to take him out driving all the time. But there are times that you just need to lean on the run game and short, high-percentage throws. Kill some time. Tire out the defense. It’s like Dorsey always wants to go for the kill shot. Stupid, hero ball won’t beat Cincy and KC.

D Yates

I love the Bills, and always will, but if the coaches employ that same old, predicable game plan, and if the defense stays with their “no blitz – zone defense” next week, the Bengals will eat them alive. Hell, Burrow will have three hundred yards by halftime.

Paul Keitz

Great win but the Bills need to up their game with consistent offensive plays. The long bombs all game long worked and didn’t work. Dorsey called a questionable offensive game plan yesterday and the TO calls came at the worst possible times. If the offense plays like they did yesterday (hot and cold) with no consistency, the Bengals and Chiefs will smoke the Bills. Spencer Brown was getting burned all day long against Philips. The O line needs to step up their game. Lack of consistent offense, especially the blocking, is hurting offensive drives. Spencer Brown needs to step up his game bigtime.

Angelo Fresquet

What i said all season since the first Dolphin game. After first 2 games. If Allen keeps forcing. It’s hard to say how far we will go. Thankfully. Our defense has somehow overcome majority of his forced balls and turnovers. As soon as he was told to go back to throwing to backs and TEs and running game… the Bill’s bounced back. Luckily. Not sure why he has that tendency to continue to force. Been all season and well since he got to NFL minus maybe one season more or less. That’s a hard to win big games character trait

MrAKoles1

We dropped some passes too. We gotta run the ball more and protect it.

Estela Fowler

Go All The Way!!God Bless Always !!

Ryan Patrick

Matt Milano is so important to our team. He lead the team in tackles, solo tackles, tackles for loss and 2 sacks in this game. Thankfully the Associated Press gave him All Pro status. Well deserved.

Mike Luebbert

Been a Bills fan for 50 years. So happy we won the game. If the offensive coordinator continues to rely solely on HUGE plays from Josh, this season will end with the Cincy game. Too much reliance on Josh and not enough solid running / short passing plays. So frustrating to watch. Been this way most of this season. Fingers crossed for Cindy game coming up!

Beast_e55_amg

FIND A WAY! That’s the motto this year.
It’s been a scratching and clawing season to find a way to win. Keep doing your thing!

TheDiscardedFoot

Kaiir! Glad he’s putting in work. Let’s keep him as long as possible.
