Say Their Stories: Emmett Till as Told by DK Metcalf

Exactly eight years before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his 'I Have a Dream' speech, Emmett Till was brutally murdered in Mississippi. Till's death helped ignite the Civil Rights Movement and still, 65 years later, resonates with so many today.

Seahawks WR DK Metcalf honors the life and impact of Emmett Till. #SayTheirStories

@Paul Revere yes because they make up most of the population

    Hustle 2x

@Paul Revere A cashier thought George Floyd have a fake dollar bill which turned out to be real how is he a criminal?

    _Jay _

    @Paul Revere A person’s past does not defy a person’s character

    Ray Ray

@Paul Revere I have read his autobiography and he has spoken out constantly against police brutality and was aware of the racist systems and wanted to overthrow them

    Pleetypus

@Carlos Duncan what did that guy say he deleted his comment

Alyrricyst Sacarsa Smith

As someone from Greenville, Mississippi, this is so powerful for someone like DK to do.

    Bella Bears

    💯
Also from someone who is from Mississippi

    ꋪꀤꏳꂦ ꏳꀍꂦᖘᖘꍏꀍ 401ꉧ

DK is from Mississippi? I never would have thought

    Squest s

He did not nothing. You must force change not just march and talk about. MLK would be ashamed of us all. Nfl players can start with forces more black head coaches or not playering for those owners that do not a give fair opportunities to hire black coaches. Actually F Fair. Demand black coaches period. Than demand a black owned team or shut it down. ADOS1 We are the strong.

emmett till should never happen again

    Anonymous Person

@Falcon 1 that’s common for them to do. It’s not a race thing. It’s a common thing. They have many cases so a lot of them will just be sat back and waiting for someone to open it. Especially if there are more important cases first

    Falcon 1

@Anonymous Person that’s true, but 10 weeks is enough time to at least reach out to the family.

    Toastbastard

    It should, but it hasn’t.

    Blizzardtakescare Of himself

@People’s Champion o it happens all the time🤔 like when we’re told believe all women just because they’re women. As we watch as men get sentenced to 30 years in prison based on a lie.

Gemini Man

The lady who accused him of whistling at her later admitted she lied. So messed up how could anyone be that cruel especially to a young one

    Blizzardtakescare Of himself

@MG23 how is it much more relevant? You need to learn your history.

    Jay Everett

@MG23 well the way you’re putting all of that seems like you’re more angry for them not covering the subjects YOU want to hear. Yeah the whole world should know about these things but Metcalf chose Till because it’s from where he is from. I know the feeling. I talked about Till once because it’s where I AM FROM. He’s covering something so brutal and cruel that happened in his area and yeah maybe he wasn’t born at the time but a story like that needs to be heard. It may be often us blacks get shot and hunted, but It’s not often black people get their body absolutely turned into a pulp.

    EQuietstorm

@BossPlayer MFS she is still alive. She cannot be prosecuted anymore.

    Allen Cameron

Dollars to doughnuts that this MG23 is an “all lives matter” person. Being upset about Cannon Hinnant is (while justified) quite different. He was killed by a neighbor, who law enforcement quickly tracked down in an attempt to bring the killer to justice, instead of avoiding any real attempts to find the killer.

He wasn’t sleeping in his apartment when police broke in and killed him like Breonna Taylor. He wasn’t jogging through a neighborhood when men in pickup trucks chased him down and shot him like Ahmaud Arbery. Till’s death was at the hands of strangers, racially motivated, and based on a lie. Yet his story is far from alone, he’s just the most prominent. Just because we bring up Rosa Parks doesn’t mean we don’t care about Claudette Colvin.

Let DK tell whatever story he wants. Use your platform to beat the drum for the “Oh, but did you know that people got shot in Chicago?” narrative. That sort of whataboutism never helps.

    Silent Rebel

well its just a young black one.

MD Avaughn

I saw this on NFL network and in my head I thought, there’s no comment section on TV

stuff and stuff

Does any one realize that lynching was just made a federal crime? That is 200 years to late

    The Little Blerdmaid

@Ownerthekpwner white ppl who were lynched were often known to be civil rights allies and activists so…it still boils down to race. Nice try though.

    Ownerthekpwner

@The Little Blerdmaid some were but many were not, John Smith for example was not. I suppose race does sometimes play a role like the whites killed during the LA riots and the Jew killed during the Detroit riots which were incited by AL Sharpton who said “If the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house.” I would also agree race played some role into the lynchings of whites over the summer during the BLM and Antifa riots although being a conservative was also grounds to be lynched in those cases. So I guess you are right whites being lynched is often due to race.

    kdr 97

@Ownerthekpwner nah it’s always been a race issue. Nice try tho

    Ownerthekpwner

@kdr 97 lol you didn’t read my last comment.

    Ownerthekpwner

@kdr 97 again John smith and his brother were both lynched, it had nothing to do with race

A cruel fate to die so young an even crueler fate to have those that took that boys life be allowed to live free.

Damn DK… I already respected how you conducted yourself and how you played before, but wow. God bless you you wonderful human being. We are going to win my friend. Humanity is going to win.

Chronic _isCam

It’s sad the people who even killed him joked about it after being acquitted

D0CT0R K.

Ppl really disliked this smh

    Colton Garrett

Either from the topic or how sad the story is

Justin Harris

I really wish he would have added that the woman later admitted too lying about him whistling. Unfortunately, people will use that as a reason for him to have been killed. even if they don’t pay attention to facts, we have to make sure they keep facts and history correct for ourselves.

Brett Patterson

Remember when LeBron James compared himself to Emett Till.
