Ryan Poles on Bears draft process: ‘We were aligned everywhere’ | Chicago Bears – FANTASY FOOTBALL FAN SITE
Huhi Jae hyun

Good Presser I liked his answers and what he said about why we drafted who we drafted. Was one of the guys who wanted one of these Receivers that fell to us but I am excited that we retooled this Secondary with 2 exciting picks.

    Jim George

You have great humility. Takes a great man to allow his mind to be changed of he here’s a good argument that trumps his own. I understand exactly why Poles made the decisions he made today , and I 100 percent think he got it right.

    Maso Jar

    Better than Nagy. Much better

dvsxavier

Ryan you got at least 3 starters, Great Job and Thank You. I love the picks to upgrade the secondary, especially Jaquan Brisker at #48. I’m very intrigued by Velus, I hope he continues to grow and develops into something special in the passing game for the Bears. I didn’t think Kyler would’ve been available at #39, he was a steal.

    Javohn May

Tyreek hill came in the league unpolished so did devonte Adams I like the took a guy that can do a lot and they can develop him our receiver coach is great and so was Getsy who was the receiver coach for adams. Fan boys want poles to be pace and eberflus to be nagy I trust our new staff

    Blank Name

@Dan O’Malley Devin Hester pick would be a terrible pick today. The nfl literally changed rules to make a guy like Hester less dangerous

    Dan O'Malley

@Blank Name today yes. Not back then when everybody said he was a wasted pick and ended up being the best ever at his position

    simglitch

@Brandon O’Neil he’s a year younger than Deebo Samuel and is just now getting drafted. Not good

    simglitch

@Javohn May Velus is nowhere near the talent Hill or Adams were. He’s Jakeem Grant at best

Texas Rick

I like the way Poles is judging these prospects. It’s not just how they rank physically, it’s also what type of teammate they’ll be. Their attitudes. Some of these things are as important as their season numbers.

    Mandy

And he didn’t say they have great gett off or huge upside one time 😂 He explained what they actually do well now & gave examples. I don’t think Pace was near as knowledgeable as Poles is!

    Peter Stachura

@Mandy That’s because Poles cut his teeth as being a college scout whereas Pace was strictly a Pro Personnel guy. This is why Poles is HEAD AND SHOULDERS better than Pace!! In Poles I trust!!!

Joseph Archer

To many people crying the BEAR’S didn’t have alot to start with so let finish this draft off and start this new season LET’S GO BEAR’S

    Tru Savage

@Jim George Exactly it’s also deflating AF for the whole team! How many big 3rd and longs got converted against us last year, seems like 3 out of 4! Here’s another important aspect that people haven’t realized yet. Having Soldier Fields go up against a upper tier secondary unit In practice day after day after day will also help in his development!

    Tru Savage

@Mike Konopasek What your sayin makes zero sense to me bro so I’ll just leave your comment where it sits!

    Jim George

@Tru Savage that’s what I was thinking exactly, you have to get the defense off the field on third downs. Like you said we let our opponets covert so many third downs last yr. They could exploit us on second down and try deep shots because they knew they would covert on third down anyway, so why not go for it on second down. That ended as of yesterday with the addition of our first two picks. Now we need some depth at those positions so that if those guys get injured we don’t miss a beat when whomever plays back up comes in.

    Mike Konopasek

@Tru Savage We did have our pick of two wide receivers that both had many experts pick as 1st round players in sky Moore and George Pickens but because we have a defensive minded head coach and organization we will always pick defensive players and reach for offensive players later in the draft. The bears have always done that as an organization because God forbid we actually try to help out our quarterback.

    Tru Savage

@Jim George Yup I agree! But we already have depth there too now! Tayvon Young, Cruisack, Thomas Graham, Deidre Carson Houston and Vilmor! All solid back ups

Entrenched Trader

Considering Poles is a first year GM, plus the situation he walked into with limited cap space and the tough decisions he had to make, I think he’s off to a great start. The best player available strategy is looking good. Its never good to chase anything, so I like it. 🐻⬇️

    Ravi Comeup

Why do we have to handicap him bc 1st year GM. Do GM have to “develop” like a player? It is ridiculous. You come in and do a good job. I bet your stock picks are awful.

Ready To Ball Podcast

Love Ryan Poles man. Clear vision and plan for every player and doesn’t have a problem being transparent with what they do and plans they have in place.

    Jim George

That’s why I like the guy so much to. He has a clear and specific vision for every player. He’s not going to ask them to do anything that is outside their skill set. Reminds me big time of Bill Belichick in that regard.

Mandy

I really like Poles & think we got our GM! He is just so much smarter then Pace imo. Pace was so stuck on what somebody could be, Poles focuses on who they are now! We all wanted a big, play making WR I get it. Don’t forget how bad our secondary was last year, our team got much better tonight!

    Fatboi Gotti

All the games they lost us on missed assignments letting teams go down and score to win the game like no fight….

    Mandy

@geoffhumboldt it’s like fans completely forgot how bad it was last year lol! I knew we were screwed but had no idea how bad it was going to be until 5 minutes into the Rams game. Did we really want to depend on Graham Jr & Johnson is injury prone. Jackson was at his best with Amos & Brisker is just as physical with better hands & hips. Maybe with him & the coaches pushing Jackson he will stop making awful business decisions! I’d bet money if he continues to do so, he is gone next year 😉

    Mandy

@Fatboi Gotti it was just way to easy! My daughter can’t throw a football & she could probably have found the holes in the defense 😂

    Jim George

We had the worst secondary in the league. We we’re dead last in opponets QB rating. 103.3. You simply can’t win ballgames when your going g to allow the opponets QB to torch your secondary line that. Poles made excellent picks…..

    Mandy

@Jim George exactly, so glad you get it lol. I just seen a crazy stat! Between the 2, they had almost 1,700 snaps in college between the 2 of them & gave up ONE TD! Insane, freaking insane & exactly what we need! A good defense helps our offense & that’s what ppl don’t seem to understand! Our D-line got a little weaker not getting Ogunjobi so we needed these guys back there…

Anthony Puccini

Starting to like the Kyler pick more and more, and I absolutely love the Brisker pick. He was a steal at 48 and immediately upgrades our secondary.
I’m not too excited about Velus Jones Jr., but overall a great success considering how limited we were in draft capital thus far, and I trust this front office. Solid B+.

    Steve B

@Det you could be right. but I don’t watch to much collage ball and I don’t watch thousands of hours of tape like they do so I use the wait and see approach. They clearly know a lot more then me. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best

    Jim George

@Det uh, we have a new front office. They to keep up.

    Jim George

@Alec Kelly he avg. 132 all purpose yrds last yr. He also had the second highest yards after the catch rating of everyone in. College football. Corner backs and safties(the guys who will be defending him)can’t tackle him to the ground. He breaks tackles and keeps his legs moving because he used to be a running back . After he breaks the tackle he turns on his insane speed.

    Det

@Jim George I see the speed and him breaking tackles but he’s not playing top defensive backs he’s playing scrubs be realistic and think about him playing against defensive backs that actually press

Deke G.

Brisker is a safety that will come up & knock the snot outta somebody!! Bears haven’t had that since Adrian Amos. Great pick & much needed!!

    Bigga Chill da MC

    Same school to

    The New Holistic, Co.

he’s gonna be better than Amos!

    chickenwityamz

Brisker can play Nickel, Box, or free safety. 1st rd talent, safeties get slept on nowadays

    DaBearsLive96 0

Amos was not as explosive of a hitter as Brisker is.

Odins Eye

This man and Coach Flus are building a culture. Something the bears haven’t had in a decade. In one off-season made one of our worst units into possibly are strongest. Greatness isn’t made in one off-season but great start

Marcus_Aurelius

This dude has a plan and he’s sticking to it, which is good. Don’t let the Chicago media control you

    Jimi

    Or the impatient fans.

    moosethemoose

    Except his plan is idiotic.

    Space Ghost

@moosethemoose What is your plan? Draft a loudmouth egomaniac WR like Pickens and then watch Kendall Vildor give up three touchdowns a game? Is that your plan?

    moosethemoose

    @Space Ghost The first part.

Daniel Lee

Ryan Pace always used the word “conviction” during his draft processes. Ryan Poles shows us what TRUE conviction is.

Jason Shamoon

Offense is going to be very similar to what SanFran does. Ball out quick to our playmakers in space. Creating mismatches in the open field utilizing our blockers. Montgomery, Herbert, Mooney, and now Jones jr. Plus the athletic ability of Fields. We also add a couple pawn pieces as free agent wide receiver who do a solid job of blocking, and making plays after the catch. Plus they come from winning franchises. All their signings have come from winning organizations. It doesn’t sound exciting but with proper coaching, we can control the flow of the game just by scheming. This is what I envision we will be. Hopefully. Kmet is a real football player. All around tight end. Just not sure how high his ceiling is based off his athleticism, but at the very least he can do everything asked of him.

Deaf Savage

At first, I didn’t quite understand the 2nd defensive pick until I realized the secondary was BAD last season (I realized that after remembering we had Kindle Vildor, honestly, do we still even have him? Lol). So I’m okay with the picks, I honestly can’t judge until the season starts (Or ends, to truly see how it really spanned out.), I wanted OL, but then again, this is a new GM, and nobody outside of the organization knows what is necessary other than the internal group managing it.

    Kishon Beard

The thing is Chicago has major holes in other areas of the team a well. Take the best available, we can’t expect much this season anyway. Let’s just keep building through the draft . Next year wr class will be good as well.

Darin Jones

I love this guy he keeps it real, sticks to what he says sticks to his board, he’s going to build a better team than most people expect at this point

    Isaiah Castillo

We going nuts first year. Definitely threatening for a playoff spot

    Roberto Causey

It’s refreshing, I hope they be better than we all hope.

Big Black

It’s amazing how Eberflus looked much more vibrant after the 3 day mini camp… And also Poles after this press conference…. We can start to see the passion and energy they have for what they were hired to do…Go Bears!

Steven Ahlberg

I was on a high school team with 22 players and we went to the playoffs. Yes we had talent but we also had a lot of heart and a great coaching staff

Mike moore

Very impressed with Ryan’s thought process. ” can’t fix everything in 1 year but we sure can pound away at it”. This will be a completely different team. You wont see an undisciplined defense. Every player is now on notice. Fingers crossed.

New Harper

After reviewing our picks, we are having a really good draft so far. Good job Ryan. A lot better than your predecessor.

Javohn May

Great draft Ryan loved every pick honest because I trust the GM. He didn’t lose capital for next year and brought in solid talent and now our secondary is set And I trust our QB to take a big leap and will be keep teams up trying to scheme for him
