Pete Carroll Postgame Press Conference – Wild Card Round

Pete Carroll met with the media following the Wild Card game against the 49ers to discuss the disappointment the team has in the loss, how the team came out strong and really brought it the first half, Geno Smith’s season and how he wants him back in Seattle next season, and how the team made it really far with such little expectations of the outside noise.

1 costly mistake we will learn from lets nail this draft 💚💙 Go Hawks ‼️

Cody Morris

While it may be a disappointing end to the season let’s look at the positives. We weren’t even supposed to be playoff contenders, let alone in the playoffs. We have great rookies that should only get better with time. Now we have two first round picks to improve our team even further. It’s a bright future here in Seattle.

    sctim123

But they WERE there, they had this game

    Stoyan Stoyanov

Props to the Niners! Well deserved win as a Seahawks fan all I can say is great second half of the season and win here! You have amazing team right now and will see now we square off next season once we get better talent! The next two seasons will be very interesting for sure!

    GoldBlooded1946

    Pay back is sweet..

    Brian Smith

@Cody If Hawks weren’t supposed to be there, why are so many 12’s calling for Pete and Hurtt to be fired? Can’t have it both ways. #entitlement

    Stoyan Stoyanov

@Brian Smith it’s called being greedy! What were the SeHawks prior to Pete? A bellow average team at best! He made the Seahawks relevant on the football map consistently making the playoffs and winning one SB! To me that is the problem! Omg we won just – SB for the last 12 years Jesus Christ!!! That is horrible :D!!!! What did we have before that???? Oh that’s right no SB and a bunch of losing s seasons, we were the joke of the NFL! Mmmm the fans who want him fired don’t know what they are talking about and can’t appreciate what he brought to us! Yes he may be outdate ok but as a diehard Seahawk fan I am willing to at least give him the dignity of going out on his own free will I to retirement when he feels like, I am fine with that. Oh and by the way just FYI 6 starting rookies 2 tackles that haven’t been done 30+ years and we are a playoff team! What a bummer lol

Josiah Coleman

Tough loss, but the future of this team is really exciting and I can’t wait for it. #5 overall pick baby!! 💚💙💚💙

WildlyUnruly Adventures

No one expected the Seahawks to make the playoffs this season and we did!! Proud of my team and what they proved against all odds. Well done Seahawks and Geno! The underdog made the playoffs against every odds. And Russ didn’t.

    Alex Bonillas

    Garbage!!!!!!!Always been!!!!

gts13

Thank you pete and the seahawks it was in amazing season 👏

Can’t wait for next season

    Golden State Picker

Flameious

No matter what happened earlier this season I am so freakin proud of our team and fighting trough adversity. We are expiring a true championship team.

    B M

Your team is full of cheaters nasty players, nasty organization

Rashea White

It was an AMAZING season! We went to Germany AND played in the playoffs!👀🥰🎉🎊🙏🏾💕 Never doubt this team.🥰 WE LOVE YOU COACH CARROLL!🥰🙏🏾💕

tommy friedlander

Congrats to coach Pete and the entire team for a terrific season!

Christopher Olson

Damn whoever takes Pete’s spot in the future is gonna have some huge shoes to fill I remember the king dome days when we couldn’t buy a winning record….

    Jody Lancaster

    Absolutely

    Michael

Indeed, we are so lucky to have pete.

Gregory Campbell

Gotta nail this next draft and not be so cheap during free agency. We need more DUDES on this team. I’d say we only have 2 for sure dudes in Dk and Lockett with the possibility of Woolen and Walker right there with them. We need more studs on our defensive line and linebackers along with some monsters at guard and center. Great season guys now let’s get back to work John and Pete and make us a legitimate threat next year.

    Nick

Exactly. They make good things happen, then try to get too clever and outthink themselves

    Gorilla Pimp

They definitely need dudes playing other dudes like REAL dudes do
Until all the DUDES finally emerge

Adam Walker

Love ya Pete! Awesome rebuild year sir! Thank you what a ride .we’re exited for this year for shure! Go Hawks!

    SeeNote Music

As a niner fan, he is a hall of fame coach

    Man In A Pit

@SeeNote Music- Represent our division well in the big game.

    Cody Morris

@SeeNote Music good luck guys, I’ll be rooting for y’all the rest of the way.

    yea ight

    @Cody Morris never. #GoHawks

Michael Tanaka

Pete is an amazing coach keeping his team competitive for so many years. With the loss of Wilson, no one thought the Seahawks would have a successful season. The years has taken its toll but Pete still loves his team and has the charisma to motivate his players. See you next season coach.

Matt Bunch

I don’t know if it’s a youth thing, or coaching, or what, but all the missed tackles today, I thought, were incredibly frustrating and the difference in the game. All of their guys seemed like they busted through at least two or three of our tackle attempts before we could finally stop them. Or not stop them, as was often the case.

    sctim123

A lot of tackles on third down were missed to give the first

    Bill Jones

Missed tackles was not the problem bottom line is the 49ers have better talent simple as that.

    Gorilla Pimp

They definitely need to be REtaught how to tackle correctly
Or maybe just hit the weights more idk

    ry tvdinners

Punche’s look real in the WWE…
How many people will dump the NFL when they realize it’s 99% rigged just like wrestling…open you’re eyes its not the same

    al maQ

You need to throw in “athletic thing” maybe the athletes we have just aren’t good enough. There is a reason why some players are picked top 10 and others are 5th rounders.

adrian poesiat

They gave it their all against a team that they’d have to play perfect against the Niners to have a shot. The Seahawks had 6 rookies in the starting lineup with little experience. Only gets better👍

Mihai Grigoras

Thank you for a surprising season, Coach. See you next year. Go Hawks!

Cameron Cone

Im just glad we were able to get these guys a lil bit of playoff experience. We got some young dogs that are gonna get really good with that 2nd year jump. Along with a whole lotta draft picks and players returning from injury, we gotta bright future. This team wasn’t even supposed to be here so imagine wat we can be next year and so on

    Eduardo Garcia

Get to stepping experience in losing yall were pumped at the half lmfao 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Cameron Cone

@Eduardo Garcia ok my guy lol see u got nothing better going on

GamingWithDeezo

I’m extremely proud of the team’s effort this year. They exceeded expectations and nobody could’ve predicted how well they did without Russell. I am so optimistic for the future and the direction of this team. Thank you and let’s come back stronger next season! Go Hawks!

D.J.

As a Seahawk fan for damn near 20+ years I can seriously without bias say we have had 3 main contributing problems since 2014 for us to not be a DOMINATING team, not just winning team. First is the O-line has always been shitty, point blank. We took hand me downs and men on their last leg at the position plus sadly tried to experiment with TE’s and basketball players to turn them into the position. With no o-line our QB was constantly under pressure causing unmanageable stress on the game and player, ask Russ, hell just ask Andrew Luck. Secondly, Play-Calling, on both Offense and Defense(since Quinn Left) there seems to be a lack of common sense. If we have a shitty o-line why are we trying run thru the gap between center and guard? Why are we surprised when we get 1-2 or negative yards? Why would we try to create a pocket for a QB when we know it will collapse? You have to know your line sucks you watch the same film everyone else does right. How are we surprised when RBs get hurt so often, when we can easily pitch the ball or run outside tackle or TE? Its common sense, play action or bootleg away from the rush, go to heavy set line with extra TEs when you wanna run. Who cares if someone knows what you’re doing, theres only but so many plays that come out of the backfield and the QBs hands. Even if they think they know they still can’t stop it. Then Defense since Quinn left….we play SOOOOO much zone we can make the most obscure unknown bottom tier QB look like Mahomes or Brady. So much zone and open space leaving SOOOO much open middle field. You don’t believe me look at it, check the stats of backup/lower string QBs against us. They put up crazy yard numbers, and hardly are sacked. Get out of the damn zone!. Thirdly the last MAIN contributor, I say main because from these 3 branch/begat more problems like culture of not running the score up and playin an even softer zone when we are up allowing a team to come back at the end of the game. Thirdly theres the GM. Schneider I love you but all these years you keep buy bargain players and they suck OR we don’t properly use them i.e. Jimmy Graham came and we made him a BLOCKING TE, are you serious!?! There are even more whiffs at O-Line that you’ve traded or paid for but honestly what really is unnerving was how you discard key players without giving just do. We got the money and to be honest its not even Schneiders money but you’d swear it was comin out of his check. With how teams structure to win immediately it’s crazy how since 2015 we’ve been structured to stay “Meh”. The GM pays Russ an exorbitant amount of money but you don’t pay for an O-Line to stop him from having to scramble for his life. It’s like buying a Bugatti and saying “Nah we don’t need to buy insurance for that”. WTF?!? I was glad Russ left, because it honestly, and any REAL Seahawk fan will say we were gonna get him hurt and he deserves to find the help he needs. He earned that much. I say that to say this, football isn’t rocket science its a game we all can play and simulate in games. The one thing in this sport that the layman can understand is it’s an emotional momentum driven game. If these 3 above things don’t get addressed, properly, the problems that stem from them will constantly take the momentum from us, the wind from our sails and no one will truly ever fear us.(and by fear I mean see us on their schedule and be like, thats an L). I may get bashed by fans for this but I hope someone for the organization actually sees it since its on their media teams channel, sometimes we just gotta be real. Hey, I’m just sayin…✌🏿

    Kyle Kennedy

    Agreed

    Gorilla Pimp

You make a lotta good points
But the main thing i think you’re basically saying is carrol isn’t the smartest guy an seattle doesn’t hire the smartest coaches lol
    And i agree 100%

This turned out to be one of my favorite Seahawk teams of all time. Fun to watch. Pete is awesome.

Kracken UP

The team did so outstanding considering all of the fresh blood that was out on the field.
There were plays we surprised them with, and vice versa. This is going to be one of the hardest teams to overcome next year. I’m glad I’ll watch them get to the playoff’s and Super Bowl for 2023. GO HAWKS!!
