I believe Moehrig, Leatherwood and Diablo and Koonce could all be corner stones for us
@Canadian Raider I see Koonce as an awesome set-piece, alot moreso than a “cornerstone” so-to-speak….and thats great!
Its a copycat league and I really think theyre trying to copy the browns on offense(chubb+Hunt—>Josh+Drake). And copy the Dolphins on D (TONS of depth especially along the D-line, almost 2 deep or more at every position along it, and rotate them all game long to keep everybody fresh) and I’m all here for it.
Thats to say, I think youre like half-right lol. Koonce will probably be a great player for us, productive and all that, but I dont think ANY of our Dlineman outside of a maybe couple will be true cornerstones for us

One of the dynamics to the secondary players from last year and the rookies competing for spots this year is…their all starting out having to learn a whole new defensive system from new DC Gus Bradley . It should level the field in the filling of starting spots and it could also be a curse as the first year of a new system can leave players making mental coverage mistakes. We saw it the first two years on the offensive side of the ball as they learned Grudens system.

This draft was different.
What i dont see people mention enough is how often this defense uses 3 safeties.
Early downs they roam the box and swarm the run but still cover tight ends and can bail deep.
Gillespie will come in on 2te sets.
Joseph when there is a fullback and goal line.
Abram and Moehrig dont leave the field.
This also means the nickel corner is also commonly a safety.
And dime packages can use 3 safeties as well.
So theres room for the players we drafted and the hybrid linebackers like muse and deablo.
Pumped for the upcoming season……now i just need to go into denial mode for 5 months until the season starts Lol 😆
