Mick Shots: Tuesday Tidbits | Dallas Cowboys 2021

An early look at the NFC race, the Cowboys having the best conference record so far at 7-1 when comes to tiebreakers. Then a deep dive into this slumping offense, the lack of scoring in the red zone driving the OC crazy and much of this touchdown drought caused by the inability to effectively run the football, simple as that.

Have any of these shots done anything to protect players or keep them from testing positive? How many NFL players have gotten sick enough with Covid to be hospitalized? One, a Minnesota player that was “fully vaccinated”. There is no logic to continue testing players and continue to negatively impact teams for something that has been a non-issue within the NFL.

I went back and watched the Tampa game where Dak threw for 400 yards..I noticed Kellen had WR screens, TE screens, a lot of pre-snap motion and play action. Throughout the game.

The passing looked very stagnant this Sunday with hardly any motion or play action passing. They need to bring back the jet sweep mainly as a decoy and incorporate more pre-snap motion, and motion during the snap.

The offense gets stagnant when Kellen gets away from pre-snap and motion, and motion during the snap, and play action. Every 1st down should be either a hand-off or play action.

I also notice when Dak is not trusting the pass protection his accuracy goes down and he throws shorter passes, and gets out of the pocket as fast as he can. He doesn’t trust any long developing plays.

Another thing they should try is 4 WR sets. With Zeke staying in the backfield to help block or get out for a screen. Get CeeDee, Amari, Noah Brown and Gallup all on the field together. I could see Noah, Amari, and CeeDee in a bunch formation on one side and Gallup at the wide out on the other.

Put Amari or CeeDee in motion to Gallup’s side, play fake to Zeke..You have Zeke for a screen or pass protection, you have your 4 most dangerous targets in CeeDee, Amari, Gallup, Noah all on the field at the same time. That would be great on 3rd and 5. I also think they would have fewer 3 and outs using more play action.

Kellen actually did this against the Giants(4 WRs on field)..It resulted in a 40 yd bomb TD to CeeDee…

They should use motion or a jet sweep to set up screens..Also they should set up screen options on both sides of Dak. WR/TE screen on one side and a screen to Pollard/Zeke on the other..Run your motion/jet sweep away from your screen, make the defense choose…

The least productive plays that I think help the opposing defense…

1, Empty backfield plays..Its seems those are the ones that Dak hurries the plays on the most.
2. No pre-snap motion or motion during the snap. Bring back the jet sweep as a decoy to at least distract the defense with play action.
3. No play action..Defenses still respect Zeke and it does help imo..When I re-watch games I notice how many positive plays they have off play action.

They should only use empty backfield on 2nd/3rd and 3 or less. Or on 1st and goal inside the opponents 10 yd line…

And they should definitely definitely use play action more in the red zone..That’s led to soo many more TDs. Every time the offense gets in the redzone they should use play action heavy…

More play action passing from under center(not just the bootleg)… And more quick 3 step drop back passes from under center on 2nd downs…

4 wide receiver sets with Zeke in the backfield with motion and play action. Zeke either pass protects or gets out as a safety valve option on a blitz. I re-watched the Giants game and Dak connected on a TD bomb to CeeDee in a 4 WR SET PLAY!!! MORE 4 WR SETS WITH ZEKE IN TO HELP PASS PROTECT OR SCREEN KELLEN!!!

By the way in that 400 yd Tampa game Dak targeted Amari 17 times and CeeDee 15 times…

Kellen needs to work on more routes designed to get Amari and CeeDee open and each should have at least 10 targets a game. He also needs to diversify the plays more, more quick passes from under center, more play action passing from under center(not just the bootleg), more 4 WR sets with Zeke in the backield..mix it up more…

Dak in the shotgun no motion..no play action..stagnation. Take the TE off the field and give Dak 4 faster targets more often(with Zeke in on pass protect.screen option)…
—————————————————————

As far as the rush attack I think they should have brought in a run coordinator who has a resume/track record for improving rush attacks/blocking schemes etc, A long time ago…

That would so help the passing attack and play action…

    @Clyde C McElroy I’ll be in contact sir..lol…

    Clyde C McElroy

@Will Perry but how about them cowboys

    Will Perry

@Clyde C McElroy Them Cowboys need to change it up a little..lol…

    Clyde C McElroy

@Will Perry they will. But honestly the competition is pretty stiff for the playoffs. Every team that has a good shot at the playoffs has proven two things. 1. On any given Sunday, they can be beaten. 2. On any given sunday, they can win.

    Will Perry

    @Clyde C McElroy indeed..lol…

As far as the rush attack I think they should have brought in a run coordinator who has a resume/track record for improving rush attacks/blocking schemes etc, A long time ago…

That would so help the passing attack and play action…

One thing that would help lower 3 and outs. On 1st and 2nd down they should have Dak under center more…sell the run, but have Dak with the quick pass, 3 step drop back, a quick 6-7 yard pass to make 3rd down more manageable.

When Dak is under center I think 1 of 3 things should happen…
1. Hand of to Zeke/Pollard…
2. Play action pass…
3. Quick pass(3 step drop)…

I think more 4 WR sets with Zeke in the backfield would increase passing yards per game…

Empty backfield should be for short yardage situations only. They could even get Zeke/Pollard off the field and go 4 WR 1 TE on short yardage plays…

Kellen needs to diversify the play selection..More 4 WR sets(with Zeke in for pass protect)..More play action passing from under center..More quick 3 step drop passes from under center…

On Dak’s bomb TD to CeeDee against the Giants..Kellen had 4 WRs out there…

It gets stagnant when Kellen has Dak in the shotgun no play action..no motion…

On play action passing from under center..Dak should have 3 WR targets..Do it less with 2 TE sets…

The New Orleans game with all the 3 and outs had no play action passing and little motion…

I thought they did a little better with the running game with Clement. They need to run more outside runs and move the pocket more. Dak is pressing and not confident with his protection.

    Adrian

Zeke was running better than him all game.. u watched it right? I def agree with you we need more outside runs Kellen is being subpar with his run scheme

Will Perry

I guess to sum things up…I would like to see on Sunday….

1. Better designed screens,, Not basic screens…

2. 4 WR sets with Zeke staying in for pass protect/screen/draw possibilities…

3. Less empty backield..Use 4 WR 1 TE on empty backfield..Get Pollard/Zeke off field…

4. Use empty backfield on short yardage downs only…

5. More play action passing from under center…

6. More quick passes from under center…

7. More play action passing from under center with 3 WR/ 1 TE sets…

I’m just putting this out there but what has changed since the first 6 weeks with the running?…LG….

EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES. This is why this show is the worst of the ones they put out and I rarely even watch it here on YT. But, I wanted to see if the old guys would just talk about yesteryear or come up with silly things for the excuses they spew and led by MICKEY they didn’t disappoint.
Nothing but Dallas cheerleading and excuses for Dak. I like every other Dallas Cowboys fan wants nothing more than for Dak to lead them to not 1 but several SB titles. But it’s time they stop the excuses for shitty play and own it. STOP SAYING WE, WE, and start saying I need to play better.

4 td and 5 interceptions in last 4 games for that piece if garbage prescott 40 million for a disgusting pathetic greedy selfish useless garbage qb

    Jerome Golden

Damn slow down on the hate people r so worried about his money that they didn’t have to pay because if u was Dak u would have did the same thing 🤔 I’m sure u wasn’t saying that when they were 6-1
