America First!

As a life long Falcons fan since 1978, I say with all due respect, I really don’t get all the hoopla of “celebrating” the 1991 team? I really don’t. Why you ask, ok here’s why;
First of of all, we didn’t even win the division that year, the Saints did
Second, even though we beat them in the wild card round, we got our asses handed to us by the Redskins 24-7 in the divisional round. We basically accomplished nothing except squeaking into the playoffs.

This particular just happened to be the year that mirrored the Braves worst to first year, and MC Hammer, being from Atlanta, was coming off his 1990 hit album Please Hammer don’t hurt em that featured the hit song Can’t Touch This and all the celebrities they allowed on the sidelines, like Hammer, Evander Holyfield, Travis Tritt, etc.

And another reason I say WHY ALL THE HOOPLA for this season is that we bookended 1991 with a 5-11 season in 1990 and a 6-10 season in 1992. So again, why????

If you want to celebrate or have a serious reminiscent of a season, then let’s do it with the 1998 year, when we finished 14-2, won the old NFC West, then did the impossible by going to Minnesota and beating a what seemed to be unstoppable Viking team that finished 15-1 in the regular season.

We won 30-27 in OT and punched our ticket to Miami for Super Bowl XXXIII, and unfortunately we lost to Denver 34-19.

But THATS the kind of season you commemorate, not a 10-6 season where we barely made the playoffs and didn’t even win the division. Then had losing seasons before and after that one.
