We going to need some man to man players cause that cover 2 zone isn’t going to do it every play look at the saints game they exposed our defense

Having a good, pressure making Defensive Line will help that Cover 2 by a lot. If our front 4 guys can stay healthy, then that line will be much much MUCH better than the last 2 years.
That being said, I think we should practice Man-to-man just a bit more and sprinkle it in a little bit more often. We DO practice it often, but maybe increase those practices by another day or so.

If DeFo and Autry live up to their expectations (which I’m sure they will) then that’ll allow Darius Leonard, Anthony Walker, and Bobby Okereke will be able to fly around off the line and make more plays rather then be drawn in at every hence of a run due to the underperforming 3 Tech and UI’s on the interior. Darius Leonard will finally have an opportunity to show HIS full potential with this move. In zone coverage it’s crazy to ask a defense to cover up routes for more then 4-5 seconds at max, jus doesn’t happen when people are floating around in zone. That’s why the Saints exposed us, nobody but Houston even really attempted to get after the passer and put them under pressure within those 4-5 second range limits and that’s all Michael Thomas needs against our banged up secondary… In my opinion the only game we should go into playing man is the Chiefs. We GOT to play man coverage and role the coverage to Tyreek Hill’s side, we can’t jus sit back in zone and let Patrick Mahomes (somebody who can make a 2-3 second play a 10-15 second play which gives him and his Receivers more then enough time to get open) pIck apart our defense like he has in the past…

Love Malik and thought he was gonna be an all-timer but he was awful last season. Their defense was significantly better when he was out and Willis was playing in his spot. The last 2 months of the season he was comfortably their worst starter on defense.

    FittyWrap!

    Tommy2shoe811 Willis didn’t play his spot…

    Hollywood Heel

Khari Willis played in Clayton Geathers’ spot.

    FittyWrap!

Yeah he was the Strong Safety, played in the box… He doesn’t have the high end speed to play for Malik Hooker at Single-High Free Safety

Randal Smith

Kenny Moore and the slot corner are this generations Bob Sanders. In Coach Dungy’s defense there was more emphasis on SS, I think, rather than slot corner. Interesting ways that defenses evolve over the years.

Trust the process

The Dude Man

Studs of the original Tampa 2 were Sapp, Brooks and Lynch. We now have our Sapp in Buckner. I think Willis is our Lynch more so than Hooker. And I really think Leonard is better than Brooks.

    Omer Bloch

He is better compare their first two years

Caleb Lotter

I’m SO excited for Buckner

NaptownSS317

Hooker got beat in the Miami game and Denver game lol

Jared Ross

Just a random stat for ya..

Colts allowed a whopping 70% completion percentage to opposing QBs last year..

Maybe disguise our coverages better and get some better football minds in the secondary.. Hooker is a basketball player turned football … need guys that grew up in the game

    Austin Leffler

Jared Ross has a lot to do with the rush, our leaders were Houston 11, Leonard 5, Sheard 4.5. We had to blitz in order to get any pressure. Don’t have to be a football Savant to know if you need to blitz to get pressure that opposing QB has a lot of time.

    Jared Ross

@Austin Leffler no you’re right about we had to blitz to get pressure.. Turray looked pretty promising before his injury too.
Yeah Tampa 2 you want your 4 guys upfront to create pressure

Other defenses use scheme blitz to generate pressure. New England, Pittsburgh, Ravens just to name a few, all great at bringing pressure from anywhere.

Buckner paired with Houston same side of the line will cause a lot of problems for opposing blocking schemes.

Rhodes helps add some experience. Ya Sin should have plenty of game film to examine and get better.
I have a lot of hope for our young secondary

    B Mack

It’s obvious we don’t blitz enough we have to blitz more

    Austin Leffler

Jared Ross that’s what I’m saying…. someone gets it. We brought Kenny off the edge like 3 times per game. A corner blitz is a great surprise but I called it every time we did it. I think we just needed this offseason to complete the transition to a 4-3 cover 2 you need physical DBs long fast LBs and Physical D Line we have that now

Brian Christopher

I have the colts going either 12-4 or 11-5. I really think Ballard is a great GM and has slowly but surely making this colts team better and better. I’m very optimistic for the future.

    Hey it's Max

Brian Christopher and the fact that luck retired right before the season doesn’t help him at all!

Neji

They are high. The resources thrown at this defense is ridiculous. Time to be elite.

Matt Eberflus’ resume as a coach is top notch and the Colts are lucky to have him. I cannot wait for the Colts get it done on the defensive side of the football this year #coltsnation
