Is Marcus Mariota the long-term answer for the Atlanta Falcons? | Pro Football Talk | NBC Sports

Just happy he is getting another chance

Tim Flint

His rookie year he looked amazing for sure but he just kept running head-on into injuries (and still does) so his skills continued to regress to the point of being a backup.

    Larry Johnson

In his rookie year they actually was scheming for him!! That’s the difference between all his other coaches

    FuckRoys

    @Larry Johnson 💯

Isaiah H

I thought Mariota had future star coming out then he had that KC playoff win and literally plateaued

Fonzflicks

Being a Titans fan, it’s going to be great watching Mariota play again. He’s a fun player to watch. He’s had an up and down career, but the guy helped make the Titans playoff contenders again after long years of being terrible. He does have a tendency to pull his hamstring a lot. He plays too hard, but hopefully these last couple years watching Carr. He has learned some things.

    Europa

As an Oregon fan I want to see Marcus succeed in the NFL soooo badly.

    100anti

@Europa he has succeeded and still building

    Jesse bremner

@100anti ya just needs to stay healthy

    100anti

@Jesse bremner yeah…they need to get better protection too

    FJb FUCKJOEBIDEN

@oakland traphouse because that’s what his coaches made him be

Matt Staehle

I know they have a segment to fill, but saying “No” shouldn’t take 10 minutes. Mariota seems like a good person, and I would have liked to see him have a lot of success. Unfortunately it hasn’t happened yet, and by now it likely won’t.

    Bully Bully

Coradelle patterson but that was bc matt

Chris Snape

I wanted Seattle to pick up Mariota. He had a far better chance in Seattle, DK, Tyler, Fant, and Penny. Either the Hawks blew it; more likely, Mariota’s agent blew it.

    Christian Maas

I think Baker can do pretty well with those weapons, and despite his injury, he seems more durable than Mariota

Fletchman1313

Arthur Smith was the OC for the Titans when Tannehill took over. Mariota wasn’t doing so well, so they benched him, put Tannehill in, and simplified the offense (basically, give the ball to Derrick Henry). It made Tannehill look really good. If they made those changes before benching him, Mariota might have taken them past the Chiefs that year.

    KingDizzleLTDinc.

@Xplicit Pete he can’t show his face in Nashville,we want his head

    William Amey

    Aye Malik Willis

    Jesse bremner

    @KingDizzleLTDinc. lol

    100anti

true…i don’t get why coaches or admins do that to qbs…their goal is to win every game, but it was mariota’s last signed year.

    Fletchman1313

Yeah that’s my point. He was an awful OC. I hope he’s learned something in the past few years. At least he’s a head coach now.

Richard Conte

No one player is the final player. It’s a look and see period. Whoever brings them to the promise land is the one who plays.

Hank

I’m stoked for Marcus. He never complained and every time he came he had a special energy and made plays

J C

there’s a chance marcus has a resurgence, but the falcons, well, suck. in fairness, this is EXACTLY what he had in tennessee to start. crap WRs, crap line, and solid Te…. and he gave them winning seasons. this will be interesting, i hope marcus balls out

NamesPat

After watching some Mariota highlights I’m excited to see what he can do. He’s really fast, and has an arm. It will be interesting.

kauai surf

Marcus needs to shed his humble nice guy image and eat a bowl of grit and determination.

BBQ SHOP

Let Marcus show you what he has…………………. He is a NFL QB

El camino

Mariota boutta remind us why he won the Heisman nd became 2nd pick in 1st round!

stephan brainard

I really hope that Atlanta surprises everybody like Cincinnati did and goes and wins the Super Bowl instead! I’m so tired of people dogging my team!!! Go Falcons!!!

    Dr Jay

    Falcons are the new browns

    Michael Spencer

Your team is terrible 😂 bottom 5 roster in NFL

    Big Bouncer

We have probaly the thinnest roster in the game right now, going to atleast take another spot on year of building

    Ruben Mendoza

I agree!!! Nothing I hate more then haters let’s goo falcons!

Gtownballa5

This is a great pickup after missing on Watson. Two similar builds. We tried to get Ryan in read handoffs as much as we could. Mariota knows what Arthur Smith wants. This pickup will open our run game even more, then in turn open the play action. This won’t be the Joey Harrington and co. Transition of the past.

    P

Another note to your comment is that Art Smith knows what Marcus can do.

Dave Hancock

He’ll play well enough for them to not look like they’re tanking while still drafting a QB high in next years draft.

    Cody Miller

You don’t go and get mariota to draft a qb first round next season

    Dave Hancock

    @Cody Miller
They won 7 with a legit starter. They are a bad team in rebuild mode. They probably win 4 with Mariota, draft a QB and groom the kid.
If not they are unlucky. If Mariota stays healthy and has a career year they will be stuck with a marginal starter and no high pick.

    fvw 11

@Dave Hancock I agree with this. I’m a huge Mariota fan but I don’t think the falcons want to win too many games right now.

Gregory Gabaylo

Raiders made up MARCUS MARIOTA injuries!!! Derek Carr didn’t want Marcus steal his spotlight! That’s the truth facts!!!!!!

SFC Bolted Duck

Mariota got a bad rep at Tennessee. The coach who drafted him with a particular offensive skill set in mind was fired five games in because the owner lost bragging rights in Houston when the Texans clobbered the Titans. Her tantrum resulted in a new coach and new system halfway thru his first year.
There aren’t many QBs like him in the league: tall and can see over the line, accurate passer that protects the ball (on a good team) that can also scramble in pocket, throw accurately on the run and straight line burner down the field with his legs. He is the original mobile QB and at 28 he may get his first chance to actually showcase that. Atlanta your in a rebuild give the guy a chance you literally have nothing to lose. (And I’m talking to the delusional fans who only look at his last year with the Titans)
Good luck this year

bloodroz

The question i have is that if Mariota can stay healthy for 17 games, how well do you think they will do?
