Gillette Stadium Renovations | Lighthouse Demolition

Major renovations to Gillette Stadium are taking place that will transform the fan experience on New England Patriots and Revolution game days and on concert and special event days. To make room for the new additions being built, the iconic lighthouse in the North endzone has been demolished amid the construction which is set to conclude in 2023.

The lighthouse was the icon of Gillette Stadium for 20 years and will truly be missed. It will be very exciting to see the new one and the huge upgrades coming in 2023.

    @VYOM Slow down!! He’s only been in the league for a minute. Don’t get me wrong as he had his moments this past season, but there’s still room for improvement like his deep ball & his awareness in & out of the pocket. But I do like his attitude & work ethic which will do him well in his sophomore season.

    @VYOM Credit the coaching staff for not overwhelming him when it comes to him not having to shoulder the offensive burden at times & allowing him to take small to intermediate steps needed in order to grow as a QB which will positioned him greatly as he takes on more of the responsibilities on offense going forward.

smart move since that Light House wasn’t all that noticeable or iconic like Tampa Bay’s pirate ship or Houston Astros train – both a bit gimmicky. Difficult for Sports Stadium Architects to design local authenticity into modern structures without being too schticky. At least a Lighthouse was subtly New England centric; even if just an empty shell. Perhaps, if it actually had a Real Use, like for the Stadium DJ booth & PA Announcer- we’d have some real affinity for it.

    The new one will be really cool though. Something like 90ft taller, and it’s also supposed to have a viewing deck/bar on the top.

    Also make it look like a REAL traditional New England lighthouse. My section is down the opposite end of the ‘lighthouse’ and for the first 2-3 years of the stadium….people in my section kept asking….”are they ever going to finish building that thing?” Eventually, we stopped asking that, and just referred to it as the “oil derrick”.

That renovation is much needed, IMO, because the old video board was too small and there is not much that you could do in the old lighthouse, except walk in or around it.

I am hoping that the new ‘lighthouse’ looks like a real lighthouse….the one they just tore down looked like a tribute to the old Houston Oilers helmet logo. It looked like an oil derrick that they never finished building.

    Couldn’t agree more. Did it even have a light in it? I was only at this stadium once, I remember the stupid fog horn, but don’t recall seeing a light in the lighthouse. Oil derrick describes it well.

From the rough draft schematics that I seen, we are going to have a beautiful stadium once it’s done with a bigger and better lighthouse . Either way there is alot of potential to make Gillette as beautiful as possible

Just wondering if the new lighthouse will actually have a light on it. The old one always looked unfinished as it did not have a light on top. 🤷🏻‍♂️
