Brian Daboll on Week 13 Loss to the New England Patriots | Buffalo Bills

Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll addressed the media on Tuesday. Topics included: how to balance quarterback Josh Allen's abilities as a runner and a passer, if he’s philosophically aligned with head coach Sean McDermott, and what he wants to see out of his offense this week against the defending Super Bowl Champion, Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tough game. I can see the toll on Daboll. Rally for next week & pick him up!

MVProfits

Daboll has made lots of great play designs, and has a superb pass game arsenal. But his running schemes are totally basic. Use some of what the Patriots, 49ers and Ravens are doing. The Colts O Line can just maul people. The Bills’ can’t. Get creative a bit! And I don’t get why in THIS game that we didn’t see more Josh runs.

    BuffaloRocks!

We have used a couple Ravens plays with Josh, but for some reason, we don’t use them.

    Joseph DiChiara

RIGHT, I WAS SAYING THAT ALL GAME. LET JOSH HIT SOME DESIGNED QB RUNS

    Weldon Mix

    @Joseph DiChiara Sweep right options

    ArkOmen1

Yeah more Josh runs. Don’t overdo it but just a little more

BuffaloRocks!

Brian” never does anything surprising” Daboll.

The Bills seem to struggle running the ball this time of year. The backs need schemes for games like this, new England did the basic I back scheme abs won. The Bills weren’t out played but it schemed by the best in the business. The Bills look like the are about to trash Josh by over relying on him or him trying too hard. Personally I am not too confident in these group of backs they don’t hit the hole with violence and determination. Better luck next hand but we are not what we could have been, and that is always on the coach.

anthony byrd

We need a running back. I like singletary, hes like an swiss army knife, but we need a starter, a pounder, someone to take pressure off of Josh Allen. We need to be balanced…..

    Tyler B

Wish we could have got Najee Harris

    ArkOmen1

We had a chance to get Najee Harris, but as always they pass

    david graham

They got an experienced WR in Stefon Diggs by giving up a first-round draft pick–they may need to do the same thing in the 2022 draft to get a quality RB instead of “throwing the dice” and getting one in the draft

    My Burner

I love Singltary, he d be even better with a good line. I would do anything to get Walker lll from Michigan state . The mock drafts I ve seen have him going 22 or later . We need to take a shot at one of the countrys better RB s

Paul Keitz

The O line and D line needs some work. Add some O line studs and some D line studs and the Bills will be a major contender again. The O line is mediocre at best. They don’t give Allen enough time. Daboll calls some really good plays at times and is way off during other games.

    david graham

offensive plays need to be designed to make up for the fact that the 0 line is suspect-plays such that Allen doesn’t have to hold the ball for so long-more screens/sideline passes etc

Seth Chapman

We have no running game so everyone is dropping into coverage and Allen can’t do anything and the o-line has back Felciano and Brown

Tyler Notaro

The philosophy would be fine if the players focused on the moment and how to get the most yardage humanly possible on every single play with extra effort(sometimes that’s even 2 or 3 on first or second down!) But instead one of the mentalities they seem to have is when they run the ball it’s immediately viewed by our line as a chance to catch their breath. Smh. I would not want to be a RB with that effort I see every week up front.

Also who would want to pass on the run or have to break sack on the majority of the plays that are passing calls? Who? They move down the field well with RPOs and are figuring it out, but in the red zone you need a offensive line that stone walls and a QB who delivers decisive strikes to the open man with a more cone like view of the development occuring.

Instead Josh has to put almost all of his focus and concentration on not being sacked. It’s like playing with ice skates ⛸ on when they get toward the red zone…

    Bobo A

You nailed it with this….wish we’d trade for a stud RB

    Tyler Notaro

@Bobo A you’d be surprised at the potential of Devan Singletary if the following was true:
    – pick up key opponents upfront and always make sure the play is designed to prevent them from succeeding.
    – play call with rthym, sometimes do a pass on 1st, some times run, sometimes run twice sometimes pass twice, finding rthym means figuring out what makes your opponent uncomfortable
    – offensive linemen who move in sync and know how to make a play even when beaten (can recover)
    – down and distance awareness
    – understanding how a finesse team runs the ball and what works and why?

These all need to be answered, because all should receive D- grade for this year’s performance. And there are a lot more to list than that

AR Mathis

Daboll be looking and talking so “matter of factly”. He looking like “I really don’t care I’m hungry I’m going to get me something to eat.” 😂

    kirk58

yeah, no much emotion from him. “Oh well, we lost, I still get paid.”

AR Mathis

Daboll runs Josh Allen on Design runs in the middle of the field. But when they get in the red zone they try to run Moss or Singletary I don’t get it.

    kirk58

Allen is best in QB option run plays. WTF, call them, Dabloo.

Nathan James

Daboll sounds like a contractor answering question from a homeowner after his guys knocked down the wrong wall and installed the kitchen where the laundry room should be

Johnny

He says “when we got in the red zone we stalled a little bit there”. NO you stalled a lot there. Excuses that’s all I hear.

Derick Kenyon

It doesn’t matter if you’re balanced when none of the run plays ever work

Sc

I wish some other team hired him in the offseason

    Bill Shun

He can go back to N E or Alabama.

Ebb Tide

This guy’s in a tough spot. I feel he was key to getting the offense to a high level last year and proved his capabilities. But it’s clear that the approach isn’t working this year so he needs to change the schemes and calls this week to get back on track. I expect an all-out, nothing to lose, aerial attack.

Richard Greenwood

New England only passed 3 times in the game. The Bills should only run 3 times a game.

Brandon Wallace

We need to draft Walker from Michigan State over 1,000 yards after contact hes a physical back we can prolly get him in the early 2nd round if we move up to get him. But we really need to build this O Line i cant stress that enough

Kenneth Jackson

Well hopefully our running game can improve so its not all on passing game …its nice to have run set up pass and vice versa.Lets Go Buffalo.
