Good player, better team. Respect – beane

thunderpantz

The punt game may suffer but they get to keep their souls.

    SteveMKoch

It suffered at times last season and things went pretty well. They’ll find a solid replacement.

    Jesus

Bills don’t punt, everything is fine

D Yates

I love this team, and it was a tough situation but in reality, this had to be done.

    Josh Allen the GOAT

I agree. Regardless of any guilt or innocence I think we can all agree that it has been a huge distraction for all of us and that’s not the kind of thing we need when we’re making a Super Bowl run.

    Amos Burke

@Josh Allen the GOAT From what I’ve gathered from what Beane has said; it was a matter of protecting the Bills “culture”.
So, if it was Beane or McDermott that had been accused of this horrific act, which I’m sure they’d both vehemently deny as Arazia has done, they’d both be OK with being released from the team this quickly to protect said culture?

Ethan Willis

Brandon and Sean responded to this very well. Get past this drama, find someone else and go get a super bowl.

    CJB 33

@Primo You’re probably right. Clearly, whichever team it is, he’s too embarrassed to answer which is why he completely dodged the question.

    Vajra8

@Primo what position you play? oh yeah bar and wings.

    Primo

@Vajra8 That didn’t make sense in any context lmao. Next time, try forming complete sentences that have meaning within the context of the conversation. It’ll help you be understood.

    Kaitlyn Blount

@UNDER SCORE I mean yeah Feb is still pretty far away

Charles Skiba

I’m sickened by the whole thing. This was the right move for everyone even if it creates some temporary uncertainty in the punt and kicking game.

    Johnnyukulele

    We have a punter. #18

    Jordan *716

But we don’t know if he really did it though, the accusations are sickening correct

XKMMx 213

The Bills made the absolute right move. The Bills are the classiest in the league.

    Isaac Chandler

Top flight ✈️… they gave him a chance to be honest 💯

Primo

It’s the right call. Team cohesion beats all, and it’s clear Araiza’s presence would cause drama and damage cohesion. Best to cut our losses and move on.

    Furio Mr. Williams Giunta

Punting is so important tho. Omg

Scott Blakely

A mistake might have been made, we’ve all been there, but Beane has put remedy to it.

nick schmidt

I thought this was a pretty solid response. I mean damn look at Cleveland they still kept that bum. Also some of these reporters gotta chill with going for blood like it’s a football team it’s not Bills-SVU. Prolly should ask the cops out that there.

    Sarah Christine

Exactly. And why wasn’t the league aware of this for 6 months during the draft process? Those scouting reports are usually extremely detailed. Did the school and coaches intentionally withhold information about the allegation?

Beast_e55_amg

I respect this move, bills mafia is great. Making the point clear

DM

Kudos to the Bills organization for making this decision no matter the timing. Hope he don’t end up with a fully guaranteed contract with the Browns as well.

    Noah

When you mentioned the contract with the browns got me laughed

Esoteric Highway

This was one of those situations that had to be done, despite if he is innocent or guilty. This would’ve been a black cloud media circus hanging over this team in a year where we have super bowl aspirations. Thank you for doing this quickly.

As far as the accusations, may the Truth prevail.

    Joe Wlos Joseph Wlos

Despite innocence or guilt ? If someone accused you of something you’d have no issue being fired without a trial at least ? Ridiculous

    Esoteric Highway

@Joe Wlos Joseph Wlos You’re missing the point. I’m talking about this from an organizational standpoint. Do you not understand the media climate that would hover over this team all season? This is something that is not going to get resolved soon.

As I’ve said before, may Truth prevail. If Matt is innocent he will have no issue playing in the NFL. This is just the right move for this team at this moment.

    your mother

If hes proved innocent, he will get a starting job somewhere, hes too talented not to. I wouldn’t worry about his career in the case he’s innocent

    Michael Kubik

@Esoteric Highway I agree. Black cloud is right. We can’t afford any distractions but that’s not to make light of the allegations. The team comes first.

Aaron Kibat

Innocent until proven guilty, but it’s not their legal fight. Smart move to let Matt handle it on his own and maybe if he’s found innocent, they might take him back. But until then, cut ties

    neil adlington

Not allowed to cut a player for non-performance reasons. In addition to that anything questionable a player does before he is part of the NFL is considered inadmissible and moot. Bills have painted themselves into a corner and the rest of the league is watching

    Bluey6

@neil adlington tbf though, they have to go down to 53 players by Tuesday, so they’re fully allowed to cut him regardless of reason

    Aaron Kibat

@neil adlington it wasn’t considered a criminal case until about two days ago, so the bills were just playing their cards as long as they could before they figured they kind of HAD to release him so Matt could focus on squaring this away himself

    neil adlington

@Bluey6 I’m no expert and certainly shouldn’t be quoted but essentially that is what Pro Football’s Mike Florio said and he is a Lawyer by profession. I think the idea is that there is an existing collective agreement between the union and NFL that essentially states past indiscretions before becoming a member of the NFL cannot be considered at all when deciding a player’s fate by the NFL and teams. A player can ask the NFLPA to challenge any cut that isn’t performance related. Of course every team is free to not draft a player in the first place or free to pay the guy off and then tell him to go quietly into the night.

Gabe Petit

People were crying “why haven’t they cut him yet??” Yesterday, now that they’ve cut him, they’re crying “they only did this because of public pressure, they knew about the allegations before!” Nothing is ever enough these days…

    RageDaug

Bloodthirsty reporters looking for their next click.

    Josh

    Money money money… MONEY

    ʞǝɹǝᗡ

You’ll never satisfy the outrage. People need to start laughing at and mocking these people

    bjkloss

    @RageDaug *Cough* Tim Graham *Cough*

EVEN after this presser, he’s still trying to spin the Bills are in the wrong with his recent Athletic article.

Michael Rheiner

Right move…had to happen. The questions trying to label Bills as not responding quickly enough and should have canned him before the lawsuit.

There is a history of false and accurate accusations. Sorting through the information requires time. Once it was filed officially, 48 hours to unload the player (and not play him and keep Him out of uniform) was pretty quick. The step were handled, and the way they handled it likely also met the needs of the NFLPA regarding how they handled the player.

The Browns had wayyyy more information and still hired their guy.

jeff wallace

Handling these issues for any organisation is never easy. No matter how/when/why any decisions are reached, decisions, timings etc can be second guessed. Beane and McDermott, IMHO, are to be congratulated for how they have handled this, congratulated for facing the media, and congratulated for reaching the right decision after a considered process.

Koala Bear Khan

This would’ve been a huge distraction and unforgivable action to keep him on the team, the way things are now. Even though the full story hasn’t been revealed, you gotta do this to show this isn’t condoned and ethically show you stand against

Dave Ditcher

I agree with others here. There are those who will criticize that it took them too long to release Araiza, but in the end they made the right decision. I live in OH now and have been a vocal critic of the Brown’s organization. The Bills, particularly in the last 4-5 years, have placed a high value on getting high character players. I’m glad they have stuck to their values.

Clint Kearns

Bills did the right thing. Move on from the distraction. What bothers me in this press conference these reporters keep asking the same questions over and over. Give Beane credit handling it the way he has done.

JJ AA

They handled this very professionally. Applause to them for letting him go. Buffalo did not need the added scandal.
