Bill Belichick on Cam Newton: “He’s in the building more than any player on the team”

I think it’s that Cam is motivated to buy into the system. He has a lot to prove but has also not been in as good a system. But would Cam do the same after ~20 years in the Belichick system?

It’s hard to say. I don’t think Cam would leave the team, except to play at least one game for the Falcons, which he once said is a childhood dream. But Cam has a lot going on in his personal life, and I think his perspective about football is such that he wouldn’t buck egos with Belichick the way Tom apparently did.

Cam has proved himself an unselfish player–he audibles a lot to running back plays, even when he was on the Panthers. I expect he will buy into the system until he leaves the Patriots. (If it sounds like I’m saying Tom Brady is a Prima Donna…)

belichick is a fanboy…he has always been…listen to him talk about Lawrence Taylor, randy moss, Jim brown, etc….When Tom Brady came to New England he wasn’t a star…Belichick feels like he made tom brady….the names I listed above are a different story.

Look even at Gilmore…Belichick gave him his money…something he has always had reservations about doing…if you were great before showing up to Foxborough…bill tends to give u your props.

It might be saying too much of Cam that Bill is communicating in a more professional way. But Ron Rivera was a very communicative coach during press interviews. It’s not impossible to believe that Cam’s influenced the clubhouse to be more polite and respectful, and that could be affecting the morale of the coaches. Though, more realistically, it’s probably that Belichick was stressed at having to deal with Tom Brady’s ego every day for the last decade.
