The stats dictate that late first round QBs are almost never successful. If they’re good enough they’re taken earlier, if not 2nd or later.
Lamar? Rodgers? Even teddy b has been decent. All late first round guys
By round, QBs picked 1-16 overall have become multi-year starters 81% of the time. Picks 17-32 have become starters only 65% of the time. Once you get into the second round, it drops off drastically. Only 48% of second round QBs have become multi-year starters, and the following rounds average to 14%, 6%, 16%, and finally 6%.
I don’t know why there’s a spike in the 6th round, but the stats are pretty clear. If you want a starting QB, it’s far more likely that you’ll find one in the top half of the first round.
In terms of making pro-bowls, 42% of first-round QBs make at least one pro-bowl. That drops off to 14% in the 2nd, 11% in rounds 3-4, and 4% in rounds 5-7.
