Week 6 Fantasy Football Rankings: Arian Foster and Top-5 Fantasy Options

When a productive skill player is matched against a defense that struggles in his area of expertise, the results can be favorable for the fan who owns him in fantasy football. There are three matchups that stick out in Week 6 of the NFL season as prime opportunities for huge fantasy performances.

Check out the five options I’ve tabbed as fantasy studs for this week. The top three choices feature deeper analysis below the chart.

Top-5 Fantasy Studs for Week 6
1 Knowshon Moreno Denver Broncos Jacksonville Jaguars Jags are ranked 32nd in rushing defense. Moreno had 93 yards rushing in Week 5.
2 Arian Foster Houston Texans St. Louis Rams Rams are ranked 29th against the run. Foster is averaging 100 yards in his last two games.
3 Seattle Seahawks Defense * Tennessee Titans Seahawks have forced 15 turnovers this season. Jake Locker still out for Titans.
4 Tony Romo Dallas Cowboys Washington Redskins Romo has thrown 13 TD passes and only two interceptions.
5 Andrew Luck Indianapolis Colts San Diego Chargers Chargers are 27th against the pass. Luck has tossed four TD passes and just one interception the last two weeks.

Knowshon Moreno, Denver Broncos

Which running back would you rather have on your fantasy football team in Week 6?

Which running back would you rather have on your fantasy football team in Week 6?

  • Knowshon Moreno

  • Arian Foster

OK, so we all know the Broncos are probably going to throttle the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Peyton Manning and the Broncos’ passing attack have looked unstoppable through the first five weeks. Because this game figures to be out of reach midway through the third quarter, you can expect to see the Broncos running the ball a lot.

Among Jacksonville’s many woes, their inability to stop the run could be its biggest. The Jags are ranked last in the league in rushing yards allowed per game with 160.6. Factor this issue in with the Broncos running clock to protect a lead, and Moreno figures to have a big day.

He won’t get all of the carries, but he should get enough to find the end zone at least once. He’s been playing pretty well over the past two weeks, and he’s scored four touchdowns so far this season. Look for him to have a big game.

Matt Schaub needs some help in a major way. The best assistance he can get is a dominant run game that allows him to limit his pass attempts. He has tossed six interceptions in the past three weeks.

Because the Texans play the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, Foster should be able to take pressure off of his embattled quarterback. He was limited in practice on Thursday, per Dan Ciarrocchi of SB Nation, via Philly.com, but I’d be surprised if he misses Sunday.

The Rams are ranked 29th in the NFL in opponent’s rushing yards. A smart game plan for the Texans would be to pound the Rams’ weakness. Look for Foster to carry a sizable load and put up big numbers against St. Louis.

Bar none, the Seahawks’ secondary is the best in the NFL. The team has 15 takeaways on the season, and seven of those are interceptions. Beyond the stats, their collection of big, physical athletes in the unit, led by Richard Sherman, presents a major challenge for any offense.

On Sunday, Seattle plays host to the Tennessee Titans.

With Jake Locker still out, per Dan Hanzus of NFL.com, Ryan Fitzpatrick gets the start for the Titans. Fitzpatrick threw two picks in Week 5 and is a good bet to buckle at least two times in a loud CenturyLink Field.

Bet on takeaways and perhaps even the Seahawks’ second defensive score to provide owners of the unit some valuable fantasy points.
