EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Minnesota Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph fractured his left foot on his 31-yard touchdown catch against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday and could miss up to a month, coach Leslie Frazier said Monday.

Rudolph was hit by safeties Barry Church and Jeff Heath after catching Christian Ponder‘s pass at the Cowboys’ 10-yard line, and he broke another tackle on his way to the end zone. He could be seen grimacing as teammates congratulated him on the touchdown.

He said after the game that X-rays on his foot were negative, but a second examination told a different story.

Frazier said Rudolph’s injury “gives some other guys a chance to step up.”

Chase Ford, who played in the ballgame and did a good job for us, he’ll play. John Carlson will get more reps now. Hopefully we can get Rhett [Ellison] back [from an ankle injury]. So those guys will get more reps,” he said.

The injury will not end Rudolph’s season, Frazier said.

Rudolph scored nine touchdowns last season and has 30 receptions for 313 yards and three touchdowns this season. The 31-yarder was his longest catch of the season; now he’ll have to hope it wasn’t his last.

“It’s tough,” he said Sunday, after the Vikings’ 27-23 loss to the Cowboys. “The biggest thing for me was not being able to contribute and having to watch.”
