I saw a team that looked to be more disciplined. Hopefully we can cut down on the penalties. They do nothing but stall drives and shoot ourselves in foot. Also we sucked at screens last year lol this will help us in drives.

A lot of comments about Raiders going into the Hall of Fame, especially Jim Plunkett. So many comments about stats. So here’s my rant about that:

Suppose it’s all about stats for Jim Plunkett getting into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. 

Let’s compare Plunkett’s stats to the New York Jets Hall of Famer Joe Namath. 

Let’s add college awards as part of the selection process: 

College Awards: 
Plunkett has a Heisman Trophy; Namath doesn’t. 
Plunkett was the Number 1 NFL Draft pick. Namath 1st in AFL, and 12th in NFL. 
Plunkett is in the College Football Hall of Fame, and Namath isn’t.

Comparing Pro Stats: 
Namath — 48% win, 50.1% Completions, TD 173/INT 220, 27K Yards. 
Plunkett — 50% win, 52.5% Completions, TD 164/INT 198, 25K Yards. 

Really close, right? Here’s where Plunkett separates himself from Namath.

Super Bowl MVP stats: 
Namath SB3 MVP stats — 202 yards passing, 1 TD 
Plunkett’s SB11 MVP stats — 261 yards passing, 3 TDs.
Plunkett’s stats are better. 

NFL Playoff stats: 
Namath — 3 games went 2-1, 1 title. 
Plunkett — 10 games went 8-2, 2 championships.
Plunkett’s playoff QB stats are far superior to Namath.
Plunkett has one more Super Bowl over Broadway Joe. 

Joe’s in the Hall of Fame for the guarantee win in Super Bowl 3 and a being the NFL Media darling who got women to watch football in his era.
If Namath loses SB3, he doesn’t get in based on his stats. PERIOD. 

Plunkett’s not in because he’s Latino, and that’s obvious. 

Plunkett is, however, the first minority to start and win a Super Bowl and did it twice.

He’s also the ONLY Latino professional football player at any position to win a Super Bowl MVP. 

If Hall of Famer Coach Tom Flores is the first minority and first Latino Head Coach to win a Super Bowl (he did it twice, BTW),
how do you not put Plunkett in the Hall of Fame with his coach who achieved the same accolade? 

Plunkett’s connection to Flores should put him in. How do you not put him in with his Coach, who both share the SAME social impact in the history of the NFL?

Here’s a question the Hall of Fame Selection Committee always asks regarding an individual up for the Hall of Fame: 

Can you tell the story of the NFL without this person? I say you can not tell the history of the NFL without Jim Plunkett or Tom Flores because they are the First minorities to win the Super Bowl as Head Coach and Quarterback.

Are you going to skip that part of the history of the NFL while you play games in Mexico and Europe? 

Flores and Plunkett are pioneers in this part of the history of the NFL. Art Shell always said to the media, “I am not the first minority head coach in the NFL. That’s Tom Flores.”

Plunkett should go in and will eventually get there with the Senior Committee. I hope he’s alive to accept it.
