Houston Texans running back Ben Tate, who is scheduled to be a free agent this offseason, indicated in a series of tweets that he will not return to the team.

Tate, 25, missed the last two games of the season due to a rib injury. The fourth-year running back took to Twitter on Monday, one day after the Texans completed a 2-14 season with their 14th consecutive loss.

Tate rushed for 771 yards and four touchdowns this season, serving primarily as a backup to Arian Foster before assuming a lead role when the three-time Pro Bowler suffered an injury in Week 7.

Tate told ESPN.com last week that he “probably” would not return to the Texans, although he also acknowledged that “you never know what will happen.”

A second-round draft selection in 2010, Tate figures to garner serious interest as a free agent. He has rushed for 1,992 yards and 10 touchdowns in 40 career games.
