Secondary needs to step up, man…. Baker Mayfield isn’t the best but if they slack, he will pick them apart next week. Shutting down the run game isn’t hard, but we let an undrafted rookie get 150 on us, that’s just sad.

    Pat Hutchison

What the secondary needs is consistent pressure from the front seven. There were Lon stretches of this game where Watt and Dupree weren’t doing much at all and as a consequence Wentz had all day to throw. Also, I felt like once they took Hilton off of Fugham and but Joe Haden on him, our secondary started to have much more success. Still, it all comes down to pressuring the QB. Finally, Minkah Isn’t showing up in the splash play department yet this year, be he is contributing quite a bit in ways that don’t show up on the stats. The best part is that both our offense AND defense are only going to get better as they continue to gel, provides they avoid the injury bug.

    Nashorn W.

Miles Sanders is a legit starter. His undrafted has no bearing on that. Alos Sanders had 80 rush yards and 19 receiving yards, 75 yards came on 1 run. Get a clue you moron.

@Pat Hutchison To be fair the d took Ertz out of the game completely and – the huge run they shut down the run too

We have room for improvements and we all know what the Steelers need to work on. But for now, let’s just enjoy this win and prepare for a battle with the Browns.

    Pat Hutchison

    Well said

    Jimmy Baker

I’ll agree as well because we love our steelers I been with them since 1975 and I’m ga boy so you know I really got long life love for them but as you stated they’ll work on the proper areas and I’m so good about this season!!!!!

Stephen Nelson made a really selfish play with his second interception. It was 4th and 20, so if he just knocks the hall down then Pittsburgh takes over at the Eagles’ 15. But because he caught it, they instead took over at their own 23. The Steelers’ offense was able to grind out a first down which made it irrelevant, but that could have been a key play if they weren’t able to move the ball.

    javier mori

Sometimes its just instinct to make the play and pick it but i agree he was so far downfield that even a run back wasnt gonna bring it close to where line of scrimmage was..

    Ryan Irwin- Diehl

I didn’t even consider that. You’re right, but I guess in the heat of the moment, it’s just instinct to get the pick

    Johnny Pastrana

Are numbers of interceptions a part of incentive bonuses written into Nelson’s contract? I think so…hence the interception over the knockdown…

    yves johnson

@Johnny Pastrana Also the score somewhat negates whether to catch it or not with the time remaining. If steelers were up by no more than 8, then its truly a bone headed play. Steelers were up by 9.

    Pat Hutchison

I agree with a lot of what you guys are saying. And it’s hard to fault a DB for making a pick. As for whether his bonus money is tied to interceptions, it’s not. But those numbers definitely matter when it comes to pro bowls and contract time. I’d still like to see him recognize the situation and knock that ball down.

Jimmy Baker

That was a heck of a game and I’m at where we are now, The Steelers really got to fix the issues in the secondary because this will get us mauled by a very high scoring offense against the other opposing teams so we got to do better in the secondary because this’s what we’ve always been crushed by especially agains teams like the patriots ravens, chiefs, bills, titans, even the colts so those are just basically teams in afc so we can’t afford to take our feet off the gas, minkah Fitzpatrick and joe haden been somewhat silent and I seen these guys get burnt by second string back up receivers and rookies so this ins’t gonna cut it because we’ll start our offense having to start matching points against opposing teams and it put our quarterback and recievers in harms way because it’s dangers them every game by playing on a regular basis period with other teams every sunday so we clicking on offense as of now but they really got to tightened up that secondary because we don’t need to start losing games because of the secondary not making plays and constantly getting burned and at the end to the closing of the season and then having to lean on certain teams to win or lose just to get us in the play-offs like past two seasons but we got to keep winning and don’t start losing to teams that we knew we should have beaten and especially the division games that’ll be brutal because they are looking real good about now so we start with cleveland and it’s gonna be a hell of a game but we got to get that win under our belt and really at least split with the ravens because they our most physical team in the division but we’ll win better games in the division and not lose like last season!

    Pat Hutchison

It seems like the losing to inferior teams thing goes back even to the Cowher era. As for the secondary, they do need to step up but there were long stretches of the second half where we generated almost no pass rush. A cool fact: the steelers front 7 graded out as the top non-qb unit in the nfl this season per pfofootball focus. So their pressure dictates how our coverage looks.

mikeyd572

Bob is a idiot when it comes to the roughing the passer call.

Russ Ng

Our secondary is our weakest link but we won. Good win Steelers!

    Keith Montgomery

I agree but even with that our secondary top 5

    Charles Horlacher

Great win but thay did give up to many points

    ThrowbaKK MusiKK

I have not seen much of that explosive plays from Minka and Devin

    Zakary Molnar

Keith Montgomery there top 5 if they play good

    John Oconnor

    444qq

Jock James

Hopefully communication gets better on defense soon. The offense has the weapons to be explosive as soon as they get on the same page. Claypool should start drawing double teams which should open it up for the rest of the Steelers receivers.

First Name Last Name

Hilton v Fulgham was obviously a HUGE mismatch, they should have pulled him and put Haden on him about 100 yards before they did.

    Pat Hutchison

I totally agree. Hilton’s strengths are blitzing and zone coverage. He gets exposed regularly in man coverage

mdalekid0303

If I wanted to see two people argue about blown calls I’d watch ESPN

Jethro Scooter

The officials took 7 off the board and extended at least two touchdown drives with terrible calls. Terrible pi on Claypool, terrible pi on Haden, and terrible roughing the passer on Williams. This game wasn’t close the officials made it close. It’s becoming unwatchable, NFL fix it now!

Jim Emann

Again it shows that our secondary is hurting Joe Hayden he’s too old once the guy gets by him he can’t catch up we got to do something with Hayden and our secondary to go on go Steelers..

Pat James

There were alot of holding that wasnt called. Example: I saw a lineman physically wrapped his arm around t.j. watt

    Mark Franzese

    Absolutely!

    Matt Varner

The Steelers have not gotten an offensive holding call in their favor in any of the first 4 games this year. Which is absolutely unexplainable considering the pass rush we have. Like you’re telling me NOBODY has held Dupree or Watt in 4 games?

A Higher Vibe

Steelers…. my one TRUE LOVE!

A Higher Vibe

75 yd TD run and STILL we keep the opponent under 100 yds rushing!

David

Play calling was mediocre. Ben in a no huddle 5 wr spread all day- unstoppable.

Herschel D

I want to hear more from Merrill Hodge and Chris Hoke they give an informative breakdown of the Steeler’s game imo

jose ramos

Look at how skinny Chris had gonna😲 glad to know you’re Still a apart of Steelers Nation

    Pat Hutchison

I was thinking the same thing Jose.

Pat Hutchison

If Ben doesn’t have the physical ability that he did in the past, he’s more than making up for it with incredible decision making. 10 TDS and 1 INT through 4 games? Great stuff.

Matt Varner

Tomlin is absolutely the classiest coach in the league, second to none.
