Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Week 13: Breaking Down Tough Fantasy Football Lineup Choices

Few things in the realm of fantasy sports are more satisfying than making a lineup choice and watching the player proceed to post a big score. Although luck is always involved, it gives fantasy owners a feeling they had a direct impact on a victory.

In many instances, those key decisions will have to be made quicker for Week 13 due to the trio of Thanksgiving games on tap. It’s a key point in the season, so owners need to explore all of their options before sitting down for a day full of food and football.

With that in mind, let’s examine whether the players likely being debated this week belong in the starting lineup or on the bench.

Start ‘Em or Sit ‘Em?

RB Fred Jackson (BUF) Stevan Ridley (NE)

Fantasy Week 13

Breakdown of Toughest Calls

After a slow start that saw Wilson score more than 14 points just once in his first four games, he’s transformed into a reliable quarterback option. He’s now averaging almost 17 points per contest and has tallied at least 18 in each of the past three games.

Despite that recent success, the Seahawks star hasn’t reached a point where he should be in fantasy lineups regardless of the matchup. In other words, he’s improved, but he isn’t on the same level as Peyton Manning or Drew Brees. At least not yet.

Speaking of Brees, Seattle faces off with the New Orleans Saints this week. The leaders of the NFC South have enjoyed vast improvement on the defensive side of the ball this season and rank third against the pass. Given the secondary’s strong play, Wilson should ride the fantasy pine for a week.

Start: Fred Jackson (Buffalo Bills)

Jackson’s story is opposite that of Wilson. Following a strong start in which Jackson carved out a large role for himself in the Buffalo offense and frustrated C.J. Spiller owners, he’s cooled off in recent weeks with three straight single-digit scores.

The good news for Jackson’s fantasy owners is that his workload hasn’t dropped off significantly. He’s still getting his fair share of touches in an offense that’s going to lean heavily on the run and short passing game. The Bills just went up against some strong defenses.

Coming out of a bye week, the Bills go up against the Atlanta Falcons and their 28th-ranked rush defense, which is giving up 130 yards per game. It provides a perfect opportunity for Jackson to get back on track and back in the good graces of fantasy owners.

Every one of White’s fantasy owners is probably thinking the same thing right now. The moment they put him on the bench, he’s going to explode with a monster performance that would have won them the week and clinched a playoff spot.

Based on the Falcons wideout’s track record, it would be fair to assume he’s due for a breakout game at any time after a forgettable season to date. Yet, with each passing week, it becomes less likely he’s going to get back to an elite level in 2013.

Last week, White caught just two passes for 24 yards. He has just one touchdown this season and no fantasy score higher than seven points. Even against a middling Bills pass defense, there just isn’t enough upside to start him right now.
