Sean McDermott: “They Were Ready to Play” | Buffalo Bills

Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott address the media after the Bills 9-6 loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Topics include: how the team’s penalties added up to set the team back, how the team needs to fix some things this week, his take on the game of Quarterback Josh Allen, his decision to allow Jacksonville to kick a 55 yard field goal instead of accepting a penalty that would’ve pushed them back further, and how he evaluated the rotation of the Offensive Line.

I feel bad for coach. I feel bad for #17. The O line didn’t show up. #14 needs to be commended. Granted they were missing some key players. The Jags came to play.

    Arthur Au

Lions better than the Bills. Jared Goff better than Josh Allen.

    Daniel Ventura

    The o-line never shows up

    One Buffalo

I dont feel that bad for allen bc we coulda won this game but he played hero ball again and lost the game by creating a -6 point swing. Hes gotta learn to read the flow of games better.

Starlordsdad

Apparently Debol wasn’t ready again with continued horrible play calling as usual

    Robert Rawleigh

Debol is awful, when are people going to wake up

    Bruce Gomez

    Daboll NOT Doing It.

    Jerome Ward

    Correct

    T. Riddler

@Robert Rawleigh Thank you! When both Nick Saban and Bill Bellichik can you something needs to be clear.

Ken VR

This team deserves every bit of criticism it will get this week…..no way are they Super Bowl bound.

    Joseph Ziehm

@Randomaaaazdude Terry Pegula and Sean McDermott were in the same frats. It’s a legacy connection thing and it’s been inside the Bills and Sabres as well. Brothers and sisters will never be lacking for jons.

    Stefano soderi

@ʞǝɹǝᗡ I get that bud but to struggle against the dolphins and jags isn’t sitting well! We are supposed to be a contender not just average, we are average or a bit above. Championship teams find ways to win ugly we can’t seem to grind out a W when we need too

    ʞǝɹǝᗡ

@Stefano soderi Buffalo has a legitimate chance to make a playoff run. More than 90% of the teams. Our offensive line’s beat up. No dawson knox. Injured beasley. Forces josh to play hero ball. That’s when you make mistakes. He’s still learning. I’m confident they’ll rebound. Jacksonville outcoached buffalo. Buffalo shot themselves in the foot with penalties all game. Just one of those days

    Randomaaaazdude

@Joseph Ziehm why do you keep talking about frats lmfao😂 has nothing to do with this but ok

Troy Gabrielson

Why not of spead the def out with 5 wide receivers and let Josh role out who was caching this game offence. I was calling for that since the first quarter. It seems broken like I’m sticking to a bad game plan no matter what. since last year wow guess now time to worry about the Jets and New England 4 more possible losses.

    Arthur Au

Good thing I’m a Lions fan as I can laugh at the Bills losing to the Jags. Lions are a better team than the Bills are and will win the Super Bowl before the Bills as well. Dan Campbell better than Seam Mcdermitt and Jared Goff better than Josh Allen.

    Troy Gabrielson

@Arthur Au In your dreams even on bad day 264 yard passing and 50 yard rushing. NFL players are humans and good day and some days arn’t our best but to slam a guy for 1 bad day grow up. This happened Dec 10 2018. The Los Angeles Rams lost a tough game to the Bears Sunday night, and Jared Goff had his worst game in the NFL thus far. He completed just 20 of 44 passes for 180 yards (4.1 YPA) and threw four interceptions. He also had a fumble which probably should’ve been recovered by the Bears, also taking a sack for a safety. Like i said so time things can go wrong in no way do i think Jared a bad QB he is Good just Josh is better and my QB I wouldn’t trad him ever. Sean McDermott a great Coach Brian Daboll diffinetly had a bad day. Again grow up

AR Mathis

McDermott got to get his team back in order. They imploding

    Joseph Ziehm

He’s checked out and looking at USC he’s admitting that they are not ready. Iy starts and ends with him if it’s how he wants to be. Then he’s lazy and just here to draw it out because he doesn’t care about fans.

Kathleen Mckenna

Maybe we should go back and look at the greats that played and coaches the game. It doesnt matter of college or pro. Bear Bryant- I don’t want ordinary people, I want people that are willing to sacrifice and do without a lot of those things other people get to do. That’s what It takes to win!

Han Yolo

We didn’t score 1 touchdown against the Jaguars I’m looking at Daboll
When are we going to line up and use our running backs teams are making it hard to pass the ball we need to adjust, and Josh needs to stop holding onto the ball.

    Rich Haley

Time to invest some bucks into a solid rb. Singletary has had plenty of time to shine, but there’s just not much of that happening with him. Trying to think back to the last rb we had that was as ineffective as Singletary, maybe CJ towards the end but at least he showed skillz early on. Moss may not be far behind if he can’t stop imitating Singletary. Granted, we can talk OL til blue in the face, but ultimately we have rb’s to RUN the football! Just doesn’t happen here these days.

    LoPiccolo

We need to start lookin at the Oline for some of Motor’s and Moss’ struggles. Our Oline aren’t a mainly run blocking group. Most runs we play they barley create a hole for our guys. This off-season we need a overhaul at the line

Video Explosion Classic Music Interviews

Bills will get back on track! Get that offensive line in order!

    Robert Rawleigh

    Lol

    Justin McNeil

They gotta hit their training hard af!

    One Buffalo

little to late for that beane and mcderomott refuse to accept mistakes they made and thus will die on the hill that is Cody ford, bates, and ike as our guards.

    Yes Sir

Corey and Dawkins need to play or go. U smile me. Garbage

Max

The way the offense and the OLine is playing we might not make the playoffs. Forget about the SB.

    Joseph Ziehm

Got a feeling we might be seeing McFloormatt stepping down as Head Coach because he’s never really been the Coach and Leslie Frazier being named interim as he’s the only real one in the room whose a Head Coach. McFloormatt doesn’t prepare players and he’s only gotten the job because he’s a nepotism legacy frat boy connection to Terry. Still think he’s going to jump down to William and Mary because he’s to confused on protecting his players or letting himself melt away as a spineless diplomatic attache on the field.

    AR Mathis

You right bro! Our offense is horrendous. We have all that talent and can’t score. Just pitiful

    Johnny Mac

Teams are taking the deep ball away and opening up the middle of the field. Watching the game it seemed as if we had guys wide open for 5 yds nearly every play. JOSH needs to be patient and take what he’s given and wait for the chances
that come when he gets the look he wants.

    The Matthedral

@Johnny Mac Hard to wait when the line can’t give you that time.

    Johnny Mac

@The Matthedral They backed off Miami’s pressure with a bunch of screens and short throws. Taking whay they give you Seems to have worked really well for a great quarterback named Tom Brady. I agree with you it is hard to wait when you’re getting rushed from all angles. Short passes and running the ball more than 9 times and throwing it 47 times in a game it’s not the way to keep your quarterback upright.

Xander Roberts

Jaguars still own the Bills after all these years. Gotta love it

    The ref

You can have your second win of the season. Enjoy it, they come very far and few between for you

    Rowshambo

@The ref neither team has a ring.. this season bills are better, they have also been in the league 2-3 times longer than jags.

M L

No quarterback can overcome a bad o-line day. No one! That has to be solved like a damn emergency. Secondly, the penalties are killing us. We need discipline out there.

    Weldon Mix

    @Mike McCoy I hope you’re right.

    J Osgood

Wow Weldon. Lol. Watch the All-22 film from this game. Allen had to be an absolute magician not to get hit all game. Brady would’ve gotten slaughtered. He never dealt with anything like that. Come on. Go to the Cover 1 channel and watch the film breakdown.

    Weldon Mix

@J Osgood I want to believe, i’m telling you. I did witness his entire career and he was a master of avoiding the hit at the last split second. Josh was holding on to the ball too long. There may be other problems. I don’t know. All I know is this O-line could have been attended to before the trade deadline. Arrogant complacency

    Mike McCoy

@Weldon Mix there’s a big difference though between the two situations. Brady almost always had an above average offensive line, and at most he would have to shuffle a little bit to avoid pressure. Then his o-line would recover and continue their blocks because they knew that their jobs were on the line. You do not let King Brady get touched. That was one of the Paramount rules during the Patriot dynasty. Josh does not have that same mentality. He’s a lot tougher and will shoulder the blame even when it’s not his fault.

    J Osgood

There is a massive difference between the Pats line holding a nice pocket for 3.5 seconds and Brady stepping to the right and delivering to one of the receivers who are at the top of their route as opposed Allen’s line sitting in his lap in 1.8 seconds while his receivers are mid-route.

If you go back and watch the film, you will see over and over that this was the case vs the Jags. You might even come away even more impressed with what he was able to avoid in order to at least try to make a play. But the initial rush was there so soon that not only were receivers still trying to get to the top of their routes, but there wasn’t the usual time for scramble drills where a receiver could help Allen out of the problem. No QB thrives when their only option is to throw at a receivers back too early.

God I miss Fred Jackson

    Joseph Nappo

    He was so consistently good.

    Justin Schmidle

    I miss Incognito and Wood.

Garfield Kat

Having watched the NFL for a long time losing to a bad team is not really surprising. As they say: On any given Sunday. It’s how how a team responds to such a loss that will determine their season’s future. I remember week 10 of the 1986 season where the 8-1 Broncos who were headed to the Super Bowl that year lost to the lowly 1-8 Chargers. The score was 9-3 as well. No reason to panic or overreact.

    Art Kalenda

You have a valid point. It looked pretty bad but I really hope they get back that magic.

    GreyBushGames

This isn’t one bad loss.. last week was abysmal and Allen is STILL making horrible decisions.. not the kind of decisions one would expect from a a player potentially being paid one quarter of a billion dollars..

Brett Donaghue

Invest in O-linemen in this coming draft. Easily the biggest weakness on this team.

    Joseph Ziehm

Several things this year stand out to be which are all pointing toward a surrise leave by McFloormatt. Being out coached against Pittsburgh, not preparing players against Tennessee, and not motivating his squad against the Jags. It pretty much means he’s looking at USC, wanting them to buy out his contract, wanting them to draw up a new one, and to be marching their sidelines this year. In other words he’s just waiting for a time to soften a blow.

    T. Riddler

    No O-Line
    No Run Game
    No Effective Pass Rush

Bills get no further than 2nd round in playoffs

    D.A.N.

@T. Riddler Playoffs maybe, home-field advantage very doubtful, Super Bowl, LMAO NO WAY!

Art Kalenda

Penalties,no ol protection and bad play calling added up to a loss. The Bills have the pieces, but you need a running game and that is non existent.Defense is great but you can’t get to a SB on defense alone.

Cosmic Jerry

🤪 Lets Go Bills 🏈

FishyTot

in my 13 years of understanding football when watching this was one of the worst o line performance I have seen.

SamP

I love how they praise the other team without explaining what THEY did wrong. This team has been a joke lately!!!

1whitetailnut1

Thanks Coach you and your Guys will come back thanks I love you Guys you work hard 💪🏻🏈👍🏻👊🏻🙏🏻you can do it 👌🏻👏🏻👊🏻👍🏻thanks

Alan L

Bean and McDermott have done a great job the past few seasons, but Buffalo CAN’T lose to teams like Jacksonville, I don’t care how well the Jaguars defense se played. Good teams find a way to win. Our Bill’s better watch out, the Patriots are nipping at our heels.
