FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New Orleans Saints lost their first game of the season, 30-27, to the New England Patriots on Sunday. They also lost their star tight end Jimmy Graham to an undisclosed lower leg injury in the fourth quarter.
Graham briefly returned to the field after having his lower left leg taped up, but then he limped off with trainers before the game ended. The Saints didn’t offer any injury updates after the game, and Graham was not present in the locker room.
Adding insult to injury, Graham finished the game without a catch for the first time since his rookie year of 2010. The Patriots overall kept all of the Saints’ top weapons at bay in mostly man-to-man coverage.
The good news for the Saints is that they have the bye in Week 7, giving Graham and other nicked-up players an extra week to heal. Defensive end Cameron Jordan and running back Darren Sproles also left Sunday’s game briefly, but both returned to action and spoke optimistically about being fine in time for their Week 8 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
