Good on you for sticking to who you are a refreshing difference from the previous GM

    BearsFanGoomba

    Exactly!

People act like the problem is with the front office. Poles said that there were RECORD SETTING PIECES OF THE CONTRACT. Whether it’s terminology within the contract or he’s just wants to be paid that much more we don’t know. Him not having an agent I think is the biggest wrench in this whole process. From what it sounds like the front office made a generous offer but he expects them to completely break the bank on him. Roquan is still under contract this year and the bears can franchise tag him for 2 more years. He ain’t goin nowhere unless they get an offer they can’t refuse. I think Roquan is just being difficult and trying to gain leverage when in reality he has none other than sitting out and missing out on 10 mill this season

    DLW

He is a top 5 LB in the league was drafted by bears and is under 25….lolol.

    Chosen One

    💯

    J Sanders

Record setting pieces?! 🤣 That sounds sketchy

    Dan O'Malley

Getting advice from a family member. How did that work out with Derrick Rose?

vito faiello

He gotta get this deal done but much respect to him for at least going out and putting a message out. Pace definitely wouldn’t have I don’t think

    Jimmy Butler

Pace would’ve already gave him the bag as he should. Also Pace would’ve gotten a first for Mack

    R_4_R

@Jimmy Butler like he should’ve did last yr so the team wouldn’t be in this situation now where they’ll be paying more?

    Alex H

    💯

Aaron Nelson

This is just a negotiating move on Roquan’s part. The dude is still showing up to watch practice, learning playbook, etc…he’s intending to play for this team, but he’s looking for that financial safety net. If he were to get badly injured in week 3, for example, on his current contract he would lose a ton of leverage going forward. He’s just pressing the issue to get this done faster IMO. Wouldn’t be the first player to do that.

big boie

SMITH JUST WANTS TO SAY HERE! SIGN HIM TO A LONG DEAL!!! What’s the problem here? If you don’t sign the best players on your team you won’t be here in the long term to build this roster.

    KB Werks

Nobody knows what roquan was offered and what he wants. Poles better not start off by over paying. Beats fans want an elite receiver, more defensive help, more o line help. All of that is big money. Do not over pay these guys. That being said, don’t low ball roquan either.

    Magic Trick88

Smith is not worth 25 million a year. Outside linebacker isn’t that important. Smith isn’t a game changer like Aron Donald. Smith is replaceable

Steve Salinas

Bravo for poles coming out and meeting this situation head on!!
I’m with Poles on whatever he decides..

    J Sanders

    He had no choice..

    J Sanders

    @Dan O’Malley Like what

    Dan O'Malley

@J Sanders you dont remember when he sat out a few games without an injury and nobody had a clue why??

    SuperPunch76

@Dan O’Malley No one ever really found out what the issue was with him sitting out and Nagy always acted like he was scared when someone questioned him about it.

    Dan O'Malley

@SuperPunch76 exactly. Him and Pace both

Henry Aguilar

I’m with the Bears on this one. Poles even addressing the media on this is something Pace would never do. Let’s not forget Roquan held out most of preseason for his rookie deal too and got paid nicely. Roquan is trying to get the best deal that is fine, would probably help things if he had an agent. Trade options gonna be hard when you don’t have an agent talking to the other teams for you. Bears have the leverage here they can franchise him and he is still under contract for this year making almost 10 mil this year. Hopefully they can work something out!

    Cory Wilming

He held out because the organization did the same thing to him then. The same thing they just did to Brisker and is the reason he missed the first day of training camp.

    J Sanders

ROQUAN addressed it first. Before this Poles refused to talk about it

PHILosophy 1990

If what I’m hearing is true, and Ro wants 22mil/yr. Idk if I would do it either. As much as I love Roquan, I just don’t know man.

Pace wouldn’t of had a presser about a situation like this. Poles has some balls. People quick to judge, but in all honesty. You have to see what offer(s) was made and denied.

Let’s get Roquan’s deal done! ✅

I am a fan of the team since 1954. Sometimes just a fan of individual players, sometimes just a fan of the ownership. GM stick to your guns!

Connor Muckerman

Honestly, I feel like this is only happening because Roquan is asking for a ridiculous amount of money with no agent behind him. Don’t blame Poles for taking his time, and trying to figure this out.

Ace

so, the current deal is already record setting, but Roquan wants more. I love Roquan, but not sure if he is worth 21-22mil/year

Jay Allen

I respect the hell out of poles for even addressing this. It says alot about how much he actually cares about the organization. Hopefully we can get a deal done. Either pay RO or send him to someone who will pay him (he is well deserving) as well as get some nice picks in Exchange! This season is already a wash.

Found One

This has caused me to go way back and review the 1985 season hold outs Todd Bell and Al Harris. No free agency then, and I didn’t realize how many others were on the brink of holding out like Richard Dent. What’s right for now? It’s beyond me.

Jo Hick

Losing roquan smith would show the bears have made no real changes. Same ole incompetence

Dave b

this is a breath of fresh air, coming out and speaking to the public. Smart to get out and address this so it doesn’t lead to a bunch of click bait and wasted speculation which we have been accustomed to. Respect for for both sides on this.

Hunter Lorenz

I understand both sides, Poles comes into a place trying to establish himself and Roquan has been dominant for 3 years. 100 tackles a season.

It’s a business hope a deal gets done but if it can’t the picks help…with that being said I don’t think you find many guys like Quan

D'So Nyce

Gotta expect a top player to want top money. Don’t think the defense reaches potential without Ro. Give him 4 yrs/90mil try to structure it front loaded & call it a day. It look bad but we know what he do & he ball out at the end of the day.

Edgar Valladares

Alot of y’all praising him for having the “guts” yet he’s reading a prepared speech and not talking directly. Great PR move bears.
