No we didnt even talk to Desaun at his pro day,I just wanted Mitch despite a disagreement with my scouts and ex head coach.I know this set us back 10 years,and I really liked Adam Shaheen 80 spots ahead of George Kittle these were my decisions because I have final say and deserve to keep my job.
The 2017 draft was definetly a total flop. Not just the 1st round QB fiasco, but trading away key picks to get trubisky (lost out on guys like Alvin Kamara and Cooper kupp) like you stated, taking Shaheen so early, when kittle was available all the way to 146! If the bears had just stayed at 3, would’ve had Watson or Mahomes. Could’ve taken Kamara in the 2nd round, Cupp or Golladay in the 3rd (maybe even both if Pace moved up to take Golladay around 95 or 96 when he was drafted.) Still could’ve taken Eddie in the 4th, and then rounded out with Kittle in the 5th. Could’ve been a super team but Pace botched it!
