He needs to prove he’s worth a new contract. Broncos are notorious for handing out huge contracts and then they basically sit down. Let’s not get robbed.

    C.E. McKenney

Russell Wilson’s value far exceeded his contract the second he signed with the Broncos.
He’s the No. 1 selling jersey in football, helped the free agent process, he’s got the team in the media every day, and he’s galvanized the team in a way unseen since their SB win.
Wilson literally altered the course of the ownership bid and his impact could amount to $500 million in additional market value.
He’s barely in the Top 10 in quarterback salaries right so the Broncos should be looking to get a deal done ASAP.
You don’t want a repeat of his last deal where he set a hard deadline cutting all negotiations once training camp started.
Wilson already holds all the leverage. If they make it to the AFCCG or SB without a deal, his market value will be so through the roof they might have to offer him an ownership stake just to afford him lol

Mr. Hughes……..Russ it tried and proven……..enjoy the ride!

    Stop it.

I agree in one respect. He needs to prove that the throwing hand still works and that those legs are still good, but it looks like he’s good on those fronts.

As for proving his “worth,” he has already done that. A healthy Russ is worth being the top-paid player in the league, period.

Remember this rule: worth is a relative term. An athlete is always “worth” whatever ANOTHER team would be willing to pay if that player was available. By that measure, the Broncos need to think about the Giants, Commanders, Dolphins, Texans, Falcons, Saints, 49ers, Eagles, Lions, and even the Seahawks would pay him.

The Seahawks just traded him but make no mistake about it: he would have gotten $50M a year from them easily. He gave them a hefty discount the last time because they should already have been paying that. He was 29 going on 30 when he signed his current deal.

Furthermore, he’s worth a max contract just based on leadership alone. Look at the impact he has already had on the team without playing a single game!

Going from last year’s culture to the current one is like going from night to day.

So it’s not about his worth, per se; it’s about fit, cohesion and health, and I have no doubt that he has those areas in lock (excuse the pun).

We can have a few debates about comparisons with Rodgers, Brady, a scandal-free Watson, and maybe a Mahomes, but in the end, objective fans and observers without agendas all agree that Russ is still very much in that class.

More than a few people who have followed the Seahawks closely believe he’s still arguably the top dog. All the man did was get injured. He hasn’t declined one bit, and now he’s about to play for a coach who will use him properly.

Pete Carroll had a Lamborghini and not only drove it at 30 mph but parked it behind a dirty alleyway (i.e., a bad O-Line).

Pete Carroll was a hindrance on Russ. It wasn’t about Russ’s ego; it was about Pete’s!

We also make the mistake of wanting to discard the tried and true for the new. That has to stop.

    Brady
    Rodgers
    R. Wilson
    Watson
    Mahomes

Those are your top-5, period, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Matt Ryan isn’t getting his due, and neither is Jimmy-G.

People need to stop hyping guys like Allen, Jackson, Murray, Herbert, Burrow, etc. They’re marvelous talents, but they haven’t done sh*t yet.

If you want to talk about needing to prove something, Burrow needs to PROVE that last year wasn’t just a fluke.

Herbert needs to prove that he can make a deep playoff run.

Allen needs to show that he can be clutch and get his team to a SB.

Murray needs to prove that he can be a leader.

Jackson needs to prove that he can transform and evolve his game.

Mayfield needs to prove he can get out of his emotions and grow tf up!

Prescott needs to prove that he can be clutch in the playoffs and lead a team to the Super Bowl.

Trevor Lawrence needs to prove that his rookie year was an aberration that occurred because of his coach.

Those guys have things to prove. With the exception of maybe Mahomes, the five guys I mentioned above do not!

Watson may look disgusting right now, but if he had been the Chiefs QB over the past 5 seasons they would have more than one SB ring. So, I’m not completely sold on Mahomes, either.

One of those guys has carried would-be 4-12 teams to the playoffs in multiple years. Brady has. Russ has. Rodgers has. Watson nearly did it, winning 7 games with the worst team in the league.

The young guys haven’t shown that they can repeatedly win big games in clutch situations, or shown that they can be the faces of franchises and remain clean.

Russ has done THAT, and he has been doing it since his true rookie year. The Seahawks’ lack of recent playoff success is Pete Carroll’s fault, not Russ’s, and anyone who has watched the Seahawks knows it.

Russ gets an edge in all of those areas, and his leadership is unparalleled. Some guys may not care that much for him, but even guys who don’t like him follow him as a leader because they know he brings a championship attitude. That is reflected in everything he does.

He’s worth e wet dime he asks for and then some.

If Russ only sleeps 4-5 hours a night he’s either insanely gifted, like Diddy (he only needs 4-5 hours too), or he’s eventually going to pay a price for it. I believe the former, but we will see.
