Roquan Smith: Not Always the Best Team Wins | Baltimore Ravens – FANTASY FOOTBALL FAN SITE
Jay Steppin'

I like how he blames everything on execution (players) and not the coaches 😅

    ‘Last shall be First’

Jon Harbaugh is cheating the fans and his players. He hasn’t been 100% all in for the past 3 years. It’s time to retire. And the Baltimore ownership needs to rebuild their leadership, because they’re not setup to win.

    Tony Davis

What is Harbaugh here for besides being a great motivational speaker, arguing with refs, throwing red flags, and going for it on fourth and short?

    BerserkerDBL

@NICK D I mean did you not see Greg Roman call the same 3 plays in the red zone during the end of 2nd quarter? Or are you blind

    Gary Neal

@Tony Davis tbh that’s all a head coach needs to be if they have a great OC and DC. New DC stepped it up second half of the season, but OC is 🗑️

    Bird Scofield

And that’s what this game failed on, execution because we had that game right at that goal line!!! If not for that fumble, they couldn’t score in the second half!!

Tre’

This is what happens John when you let your friendship ruin the team not even a ravens fan but Roman has costed them so many big games and is only hired because he’s friends with harbaugh.unfortunately decosta won’t make harbaugh change because their litterally neighbors

    Nope

Nothing will change. Send a message to Biscotti by not supporting the team.

    Stevo W

Excellent point. I have been harping on this for over a year.

    NICK D

We got to the playoffs, it wasn’t as bad as you make it seem. We easily been scratched out working w a back up QB

    Rusty Shackelford

@Nope …he won’t care. The profits overwhelmingly come from TV revenue sharing!

    Nope

@Rusty Shackelfordsounds like another situation with another Baltimore owner doesn’t it 🤔

Creo The Traveler

Ravens need to PUMP plenty of resources into the OFFENSE. It’s criminal the lack of offensive weapons…SMFH…

R H

Ok boys and girls…….we have just witnessed an NFL season where we saw the Broncos coach kill his own clock for the advantage of attempting a 64 yard field goal in week one. ……..now we’ve ended the ravens season With the coaches deciding to run 45 secoonds off the clock during their last chance to tie the game………..?……..was it to increase the level of difficulty…..even collinsworth and tirico were bewilderd…….like I’m sure alot or others who thought we understood football……..obviously we dont.

Bass

The boys played their hearts out and came up a little short against a superbowl contender with a backup quarterback. It’s disappointing, but I respect the hell put of this team.

    Fleck Bigsby

That’s precisely what makes me so angry about these past few seasons. These teams have been playing incredibly hard only for the coaching staff to fail them on almost every level.

    Bass

Our organization is great. A tweak at OC might be all we need but a lot of time were loyal to a fault.

    Daniel

“And came up a little short” thats what they have been doing quite a bit

    Urdonkey

This team got good fight in them gotta respect..i really hope they franchise tag lamar and trade him to houston or indy

    Bass

@Urdonkey  we should trade to the NFC with the Falcons.

Diverse Colez

RUN the ball with Gus and JK and you win the game simple! You took the ball out their hands!

    JK should want out

    Casey Budden

    @Kameron Doleman BIG FACTS

Jim Beaux

Lifelong bengals fan, and I just wanted to say that Huntley and Ravens defense played a heck of a game. Although he’s playing for the boys in purple and white, I love my boy JK Dobbins. Cat gave us so many great moments at Ohio State.

    shrimptrawler

Zac Taylor, Burrow, and Chase will be with you for at least a decade. We will never pass Cincy as long as John harbaugh is our coach.

    Kyle

    🤡

    Casey Budden

@Don’t@Me wrong he ran a pro spread offense in college but not the nfl that makes no sense at all he should be running a pro offense

    Smoke N Play podcast

    @Casey Buddenfacts bro

    Iceberg Slim

@Don’t@Me ….unreal comment! The ravens offense is what the ravens want to run n not Lamar. The ravens have always been run heavy. They want to use Lamar’s running ability to run even more without developing a pass game. U guys on utube need to do more research an learn more about football before u comment🙄.

jdubb45

Proud of our guys.
Wasn’t perfect, but proud nonetheless.

Jeremiah Barnes Sr

Why are we running the Qb and he’s coming off a shoulder injury? I see why Lamar didn’t play cause they would have had him trying to run….

    HNiCDuke

    Bingo

Slipknot

Proud of the boys tonight, but such a disappointing end, this team truly could have won the Super Bowl with a healthy Lamar, no doubt in anyone’s mind. Time to finally acquire a true number one receiver and move on from g-ro. PLEASE KEEP LAMAR.

    Brees TV

    Indeed 🤟🏾

    Johana Masin

    😂

    Derrick luv

Dude read between the lines and stop being so stupid smh.

Lamar was not hurt , yes he got hurt but the injury was healed up enough for him to play.

Look at the subliminal messages from Ravens player’s from Sammy too JK , both kept talking like they knew something.

Lamar been healed up maybe not to 100% but at least 95%.

This was about that 💰 and ego’s smh.

The owner felt like Lamar was trying to bullying the franchise for 💰 with his tactics like hiring people to drop signs down to field after the game saying “pay lamar” and lamar wasn’t taking less than $250 million fully guaranteed so therefore he will not be a Raven next season that you can count on.

    T Gilbert

@Onell Vanstory  null it was the team that made the least mistakes

    Bass

We had a better chance the last 3 years than this year, and Lamar is no where to be found.

Big V

Great day to turn Andrews into a running back

    Harrison Crawford

Or have two of the best backs in the league and ………..qb sneak it

    Derrick luv

And mere fact that John keeps some OC around that calls some stupidest plays on 🌎 is perplexing smh.

He must have some serious dirt on John like maybe some racist emails or something because no way you keep him with the franchise smh.

John should be fired also , its time for a change.

    matrixphijr

I’ll be honest: I used to defend Roman because you have to be creative and go against the grain sometimes to succeed. If the defense knows you’re going to hand it off on 3rd and 1 every time, it doesn’t really matter how good your OL or RB is, because it’s probably going to fail a lot more than it should. Remember in the first LJ-PM matchup with KC when Andy Reid called a shovel pass to the FB or backup RB or whatever that guy was, and they scored? Why would anyone in their right mind call that play when the Chiefs had one of the best passing offenses in the league? If that had failed, maybe they would’ve called for his head, idk. But it worked because it was something the defense wasn’t expecting. So I defended Roman for a while with the Jet Sweeps and whatnot. Hey, if it works, it takes the defense out of their gameplan. And when this offense was going great, those plays were working.
But that “creativity” has to come from somewhere. It can’t just be some out-of-the-blue trick play for no reason at all. This isn’t high school football in Montana or something. If you expect the defense to crowd the middle to stop a 3rd and 1 handoff and pitch it to Andrews running around the outside, yeah that might work. But to hand it off to him exactly the same way you would a RB and expect him to gain more ground than they would is just ridiculous. To run a jet sweep on 2nd and 24 is mind-boggling. As I’ve seen this happen more and more, the reasoning behind those calls has just become more and more head-scratching. If the defense is doing something like overloading one side of the field that makes you say, “Hmm, I should call a fake handoff here and a sweep to the opposite side,” then absolutely go for it. But stuff like double-faking a handoff and then… handing it off is just obnoxiously moronic.

Stevo W

KAREEM ABDUL JABBAR wouldn’t have broke the plain from that far out. He was easily a half a yard short.. It amazes me what a difference a competent coaching staff can do to get their team over the hump. (Doug Pederson)

Landon From dance class “SussyBalls22”

The defense played so well!!!

Froztinc

Even with Lamar our team was struggling in the red zone. How many weeks did we go without a WR scoring a touchdown? Damn near almost the entire season! We were that bad and it needs to be our #1 priority working on the passing game.

    Matthew White

    Roman HAS TO GO!!!

    Devonta Johnson

Yeah but at the end of the day we would’ve won with Lamar

    matrixphijr

@Devonta Johnson People keep saying that, but they lost to Jacksonville with Lamar, lost to Miami with Lamar, they lost to the Giants with Lamar. They struggled to beat Carolina, Tampa, Cincinnati (the 1st time), and Cleveland with Lamar. And they were losing to Denver with Lamar in. Say what you want–“Oh, it was the defense’s fault, Greg Roman didn’t run the ball”–but that’s 8 games this year where the offense just didn’t perform. And any criticism of the team in those games that you can write off as not being his fault has been exactly the same without him. But people aren’t going around talking about how if Huntley had a better OC or WRs, he’d be better. They’re calling him trash. So how does it apply to the one guy but not the other?

    Gary Neal

@matrixphijr you mean when lamar threw for 250 yards and ran for 90 yards and the defense gave up 300+ yards and 3 tds no picks jaguars game? Or when Lamar and Kenyan Drake we’re averaging 11+ yards a carry against the giants and they stopped running it? That’s play calling and defense. Or when the defense gave up 500+ yards to Miami and 6tds to tua

    matrixphijr

@Gary Neal And the offense scored 3 points in the 2nd half? That Miami game?
Like I said, you can criticize all kinds of other factors, but the offense continually giving the ball back to Miami on 3 and outs also helped them come back. It wasn’t a perfect offensive game by any stretch.

Cameron Brown

It’s just a shame that we’ll never know how far a healthy Lamar would take this team.. we put up a good fight with Snoop but the fact that everybody in this reel avoided the questions about Lamar just goes to show we could’ve been something special with our QB1… I feel terrible for Calais…if the Ravens truly believe this is how you win championships then they need to wake up 🤦🏾‍♂️ you need a number one receiver & you need a top 10 QB… Without those two your destined for mediocrity in today’s NFL

Chuck Wilson

Offense let you down. Love the defense and high hopes for the next season.

    Derrick luv

If its not passing attack with better receivers , it will be the same results smh.

    Casey Budden

@Derrick luv agreed fire GRO and get atleast 1 WR#1 and we’ll be fine

Moke Wolfe

In the wake of this loss, while emotions are high, let’s remember a couple of things: did any of us think that the Ravens had a legit chance to win? I would say “yeah, we had a puncher’s chance”. it would mean few mistakes. After that first INT it looked as if that would be it. But Tyler Huntley and the offense did enough to control the ball and keep Burrow off the field and the plan worked. The defense did their part and then some… until Greg Roman got cute. Reaching the ball over the line works from the 1 yard or less, not from 2.5 yards out?! Yes it took a fluke bounce of the ball to wind up in a d-lineman’s hands but it never should have come to that!!!! With a running game that was killing the Bengals why reach out from that spot?!?!?! Why put Huntley in that position when Gus Edwards could have done so much more? Plus, 3 points are so much more valuable given the the defense was rested and pitching a shutout in the second half. This is the Ravens under Greg Roman in a nutshell. And it’s Harbaugh’s fault. Don’t think so? The Ravens defense needed Roquan Smith to overcome the deficiencies of a Mike McDonald defense that gave up more second half double digit leads in NFL history-almost beaten by the Raiders this year. But coaches are selected by the HC so ultimately it is Harbaugh who thought Wink Martindale wasn’t good enough but Greg Roman was. It all comes down to numbers and today was just the latest chapter. The Ravens, against all odds were in a position to win and blew it. But we should not expect anything different since the Ravens under Harbaugh have done less with more for over a decade. To wit: Since 2013 (10 seasons), the Ravens are 6-2-2 in terms of winning/losing/.500 seasons. Keep in mind that this is with 4 games per year against perpetual bottom dwellers until Cincy got good the past 3 years. In that time Harbaugh has a .324 winning percentage against teams that finished the year with winning records and is .769 against teams 8-8 or worse. He is also 2-5 in the playoffs in that time, 2-5 in the playoffs and 0-2 at home in the playoffs. This does not count the final game of 2017 when the 7-8 Bengals played in Baltimore with a playoff slot all but sewed up until the Bengals beat us at home to eliminate the Ravens from the playoffs. That’s right, a losing team beat us at home in prime time to eliminate us from the playoffs. So add that and tell me how Harbaugh is a good coach? He has hired bad assistant after bad assistant and run off good ones and as a result the Ravens have wasted Lamar’s best years. What is Lamar worth? No one knows because Harbaugh has insisted on keeping his development in the hands of a bad offensive coordinator. Lamar needs a good scheme and good weapons to compliment the stud TEs he already has. What do the Ravens do? Use 2, not one but TWO 4th round draft picks on TEs, a position of depth already. WR goes unaddressed. The scheme is the same and the whole league sees it. Then Lamar gets hurt. When you carry an entire franchise on your back that is likely.

Now we move on and Roman is likely fired but the damage has been done. The national media will say that the geniuses in The Castle will have a master plan and if it doesn’t go well it will be Lamar’s fault. The Ravens are in a very, very tough spot because they don’t know or trust what they have in Lamar. It’s understandable but it’s their own fault because they have left Lamar’s development in the hands of a proven failure in developing a player of his talent. I hope we bring back Lamar at a reasonable level of guaranteed money. But I am not sure that if we do, Harbaugh and any “friend of the Harbaughs” he hires to run the offense will make a difference and just cost us another year of Lamar drama under the franchise tag. In my opinion a big part of the answer to “what do you pay Lamar?” is tied to who is coaching him. From my perspective John Harbaugh is not the guy to make that decision. Maybe Payton, maybe Wink Martindale maybe someone else. John Harbaugh is a fine man and a good guy. But he is a very heavily overrated NFL HC. We could and should do better, especially with this QB. If you were Lamar and were being held back by a scheme that put EVERYTHING on your shoulders would you not want more? We’re better than that. He is often held up with Tomlin but it is not close. Harbaugh has done less with more. Tomlin has done more with less. Free Lamar, fire Harbaugh!

HairBraidingIsASTEM

The last touchdown by they Bengals tore my soul.

    Casey Budden

I agree I was yelling at the TV

    M@tt Gats

I busted out laughing foreal. The most 2022 Raven way, to lose a game 😂😂

Just DoinIt

Our defense is definitely going to be a problem for everyone going forward!!! We need Lamar to stay healthy!!! Or at least be healthy going into the playoffs. With Lamar we blow them out!! But it is what it is. Hopefully we get lamar signed long term. He more than deserves it!! See yall next year.

    Jamaal

You had a healthy during regular season and it wasn’t a blow out. Ravens have to get back to their identity and that’s smashed mouth defense. They are almost there. Don’t need Lamar or that contact. Keep in mind Trent Dilfer was the starting qb when they won the superbowl
