Josiah Scott is simply a liability in coverage. Epps is weak as well. Pair that with Slay’s diminished play recently and the secondary is a concern overall. Getting CJ back will certainly help but still a big issue heading into the playoffs against top-tier QBs.

Minshew played well considering the situation, but his ball placement wasn’t very good. The interceptions were not completely on Quez. Yes, we want him to win those battles, but those balls should not have been battles. The QB has to lead the receiver away from the defender. If the defender is right on top of the receiver, the ball needs to be low where only the receiver can get to it. Hurts has been excellent with his placement of those balls.

The ball on the first drive when AJ got wide open on the double move should have been a touchdown, but it was underthrown. We ended up with only a field goal. Besides what we missed in the running game without Hurts, we greatly missed his accuracy in this game. I hope he’s back for New Orleans. I do not want this to come down to the last game against the Giants.

We play a lot of zone coverage and key on the quarterback. This why we lead the league in turnovers. The catch 22 is you play zone. That means Elite QB’s can carve you up. Dak did just that. Gannon needs to do a better of mixing and matching and blitzing. Slay and Bradberry need to travel to the slot and take on WR 1’s out the slot. Put Scott/McPherson on the outside with the other teams WR 3. That isn’t as scary that scary to me then. Imagine Deebo Samuels/Justin Jefferson/Mike Evans or Ceedee Lamb lining up in the slot with Josiah Scott across from them. Other teams are going to adjust. We better too.
