Team should develop some nice tricky-but-safe designed QB running plays to the outside for Taylor. The sort of slightly deepish type where he can have a few steps to throw it away if it’s not there – or lope out of bounds to avoid the hit if it is there, or just drop to the ground to keep the clock running and/or draw a foul from an over excited-defender. Especially now that Wentz is healthy as backup, this kind of QB run play is reasonable to be added to the gameplan, as all the other top teams are having success with it. You know: something like fake it to #10 going one way, then Taylor runs the other way behind a Guard plus Logan and Gibson -both of whom block very well. Will give defenses another thing to have to think about -even if the play is not successful. It also plays to Taylor’s running strength, leadership, heroism, hutzpah and moxie. If the QB outside run play works as wunderkind Turner designs – I speculate it also might have a kind of settling effect on Taylor psychologically – while paradoxically also simultaneously firing up the team. Team also needs a few more runs on 3rd and 4 or less. Just my 2cents after watching this team for many decades.
Rivera did coach cam newton so I bet he has plays like that
I think they don’t want to risk 4 getting hurt if they really don’t have to. They feel that they can do enough without having to risk Heineike getting hurt. I think we will see more plays like that later in the season or if they make the playoffs but now they need him healthy to even make the playoffs. And as far as Carson being a back up he wasn’t even activated. They showed him in street clothes on the sideline. I’m perfectly OK with Howell as back up not Wentz

@Clinton Monk I never said do it NOW! Wentz will be back as backup maybe this week. I would not wait till the pressure of the playoffs to establish Heinicke’s running threat. Rivera coached Cam – he’s just waiting for the exact right time and play to roll it out. But nearly ALL the top teams have plays that feature QB runs even for QB’s that are slower than Heinicke. It helps your overall offense. And don’t run these designed QB runs in the red zone – it’s just more risky and intense all around.
