METAIRIE, La. — New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was listed as limited in Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury — though there is no indication that the injury is significant.

Brees was on the field during the individual drills that were open to the media at the start of Wednesday’s practice — and at the end of practice for his regular interview session. And there was no indication of an injury during last Sunday’s 17-13 loss to the Carolina Panthers — though Brees was sacked six times in the game.

Neither Brees nor coach Sean Payton mentioned the injury during post-practice interviews, which took place before the injury report was released. Brees talked as if he intends to play Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brees has not appeared on the injury list all season for any reason. And he has not missed a start due to injury in his entire 13-year career.

Brees was one of seven players listed as limited during team drills on Wednesday — including several players who were new to the list: receiver Marques Colston (back), guard Jahri Evans (knee), offensive tackle Terron Armstead (shoulder) and linebacker Kevin Reddick (calf). Also on the list with lingering injuries were safety Rafael Bush (ankle) and linebacker Keyunta Dawson (calf).

The goal for the Saints (10-5) this week is to bounce back both physically and mentally from a crushing last-minute defeat at Carolina. The Saints still have not officially clinched a playoff spot, and they would need Carolina to lose at Atlanta on Sunday to have a chance at the No. 2 seed.

Payton and players insisted that they will be able to turn the page, though, and focus on the one element they can control themselves Sunday against Tampa Bay (4-11) in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

“Listen, we could be a 2-seed, a 5-seed, a 6-seed or out of the playoffs,” Brees said. “There’s so many things that could happen. But none of the good stuff happens unless we win this weekend.”
