DAVIE, Fla. — With his team struggling and toiling in controversy, Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin held an in-house meeting with five members of his leadership council Wednesday.

Philbin met with Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill, defensive end Cameron Wake, linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, defensive tackle Paul Soliai and center Mike Pouncey behind closed doors to discuss the team’s various issues following Monday’s 22-19 loss to the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The sixth member of the leadership council — Richie Incognito — is suspended indefinitely following allegations of harassment and misconduct toward teammate Jonathan Martin.

“We were just talking about how the locker room was feeling and what we got to do. … It was a really productive meeting,” Soliai said after Wednesday’s practice.

Tannehill also said the meeting “went great.”

The Dolphins (4-5) have lost five of their past six games and have a huge distraction on their hands after Martin left the team Oct. 28 following a lunchroom incident.

Martin’s lawyer, David Cornwell, later released a statement with various claims of bullying, harassment and a “malicious physical attack” by a teammate. The NFL is investigating the matter and will interview Martin on Friday, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross described the situation as a “nightmare” earlier this week. Ross also set up a task force to improve the culture within the Dolphins’ locker room that includes former coaches and players such as Tony Dungy, Don Shula, Dan Marino, Jason Taylor and Curtis Martin.

Various players denied the team lacks leadership but understands the boss’ orders.

“That’s his job, and he’s trying to protect his investment,” Dolphins left tackle Bryant McKinnie said. “But as a player, I feel like this locker room is fine.”

The Dolphins will host the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.
