Peterson, who has rushed for more yards than any other player in Mall of America Field’s 32-year history, has been plagued by a groin injury suffered last week against Cincinnati and a foot injury sustained earlier this month.
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier had hinted on Friday that Peterson, the leading rusher in franchise history, might play against Detroit.
Peterson will finish the season with 1,266 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 279 carries. It marks the second-lowest yardage total of Peterson’s career, behind only his injury-plagued 2011 campaign.
