Pete Carroll Postgame Press Conference – Week 14

Obviously, our defense is horrible! But, the last few games when we have been struggling a bit on Offense, I don’t understand why( all of the sudden) since, it had been so successful in the early part of the season, they’ve just shut down the QB/ bootleg to the tight end going in motion then, as the ball is snapped and Geno rolls out, after a run fake, he goes down the line and, has two options? One a bit deeper or, the tight end that went in motion, just continues out into the flat and, Geno just has a short toss to make! It’s been a highly successful play all year for us with, no one really being able to stop it! Now, ever since the Tampa Bay game and, I believe the game before, I haven’t seen them run it ” Once,”!! 🤷
I get it, you need to have at least some type of a running game for play action to be even a bit successful for that play but, they have just shut it down completely!
Also, a lot of the shifting, 3 TE look and, a lot of the misdirection and motion they were using( especially in there winning streak) for whatever reason, they’re not running it alot? Now, it’s run( lose a yard or two) then, try a screen pass , that never gets run correctly or, gets totally blown up! Then, 3rd and long and, throw a 3-4 yd pass 5-6 yards short of the first down marker. Just frustrating to watch.
But again, compared to the Defensive Problems ” of can’t stop anything at this point, the offense is the least of my worries. Just look at time of possession in today’s Carolina game. 40 minutes to 20 for the Hawks? Yes, the offense didn’t sustain many long drives but, the defense was likes sieve!
Hopefully, a big part of the issue was having Shelby Harris ” Out” because of illness and, then Al Woods getting hurt in the 2nd quarter and not returning?🤔
Guess we’ll find out next week against the 49ers, huh?

@Spock B that’s the point. They are struggling to do fundamental things, which imo is more of a player issue than a scheme issue.

@austnsauce Pete and Clint better do something with both Defensive Lineman and Linebackers otherwise, better give them some Junction Boys workouts during off season to get them more competitive.

I agree with this 100%. We need Will Anderson and Miles Murphy to say the least. Hopefully in a few years we’ll draft Will Shipley as well, even though we need a running back sooner.

It doesn’t matter who the defensive coordinator is. It’s Carroll’s defense. It banked off extreme talent which he doesn’t have anymore. Carroll is Seattle’s numero uno problemo.

You can’t change the defensive coaching staff every year. We just hired a new staff and it will take a couple of years to change the roster to fit the philosophy. However, I still think Pete has a hand in the defense that is holding it back.
