FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola left the game in the third quarter of the team’s matchup with the New Orleans Saints and will not return after suffering a head injury, the team announced.

Amendola, who had two catches prior to leaving, was the recipient of a jarring hit from Saints cornerback Jabari Greer on an end-around run late in the third quarter.

Members of the team’s medical staff quickly attended to Amendola, who immediately went down after taking the hit.

The Patriots dressed five receivers for Sunday’s game, with Julian Edelman and rookies Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins as the top remaining options. Veteran Austin Collie, signed last week, saw his first playing time as a Patriot following the Amendola injury.

The 27-year-old Amendola previously missed three games this year due to a groin injury suffered in Week 1.
