Out of Bounds | Episode 10 – Dee Patel

This episode, Jaimie and Abby are hosted by the extraordinary Dee Patel, the Hermitage Hotel's first female Managing Director in the hotel's 111-year history. Patel began her career at the Hermitage Hotel in the rooms division and quickly rose through the ranks to General Manager before earning her current historical position. One of Nashville's most influential voices and advocates for women and diversity, Dee has served on over 18 civic and community boards and earned a gamut of accolades, including Nashville Business Journal Power 100, NBJ Women of Influence, NFocus Nashville's Most Powerful Women, and NBJ 40 Under 40.

Charming and humble, relatable and inspirational, Dee shares her journey to success with Jaimie and Abby, including graduating with her Bachelor's degree at only 19 years old, her experiences as a woman in a male-dominated industry, and her other successful career: being a mom of two.

Thank you to the Hermitage Hotel for hosting Out of Bounds with Jaimie and Abby at their new glamorous dining destination, Drusie & Darr, a culinary partnership with Michelin-starred Jean-Georges, serving approachable and seasonally-driven cuisine.

Hi

Adam Brien

I was absolutely blessed to have had Dee Patel as my boss and mentor when I started as a bellman in 2005. At the time I was a very unrefined Kentucky country boy and knew nothing about the history or level of luxury at the Hermitage. Dee took me under her wings (she must have seen something in me that I didn’t recognize), and helped mold me into a refined southern gentleman. She gave me the opportunity to work at the front desk, learn the night audit and gave me the confidence that I still have today.

I’ll never forget when she was observing me at the front desk and kindly pulled me back and very politely told me that I need to be very careful about my slang (ain’t, y’all, etc). At that point I decided to closely listen to Dee and her verbage, how she held herself and credit her with turning me from a hillbilly to a eloquent, successful young man.

Dee, I am so proud and inspired by you. I’m not in any way surprised by your incredible success. You are a strong, independent and amazing leader and an inspiration to everyone. Not just young women, but men as well.

My year (when we got our Forbes 5th star) there changed my life. ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you, Madame Patel, and you deserve everything you’ve accomplished. Love you, darlin!
