Nathaniel Hackett: ‘We definitely should have gone for it’ – FANTASY FOOTBALL FAN SITE
Nash Garcia

Game clock management was disgraceful the entire game .

    Terry Porter

    Agreed

    Justin Ward

‘The entire game?’ I truly do not understand this line of thinking… are you being effected by a recency bias? The only time in the game when game clock management was terrible was in the final 2 minutes, outside of that it was fine.

    malachithomas1

@Justin Ward they had 2 delay of games, and 1 more that should’ve been called. They allowed the play clock to run down to the last second without the offense being set multiple times. Then the abomination at the end of 40 seconds wasted with 3 time outs.

Then there was the 100+ yards lost due to penalties.

    Nash Garcia

Just how many delay of game would you like called .u should learn the game .

outroseok

it’s good that he’s admitting it instead of making excuses like a lot of our previous coaches would have done. like he said, it’s a short week and we have to move on. luckily our next 2 games are home field advantage. at the end of the day this is his first career game as a head coach, if we get to week 3 or 4 and still have bad play calling and time management that’s when I’ll really start questioning if he is the right fit.

    Not Sure

@James Davis It is concerning. I like the guy but he seems to be displaying a combination of results oriented decision making and hubris that is very rarely a successful combination in any field.

    Trevor Thompson

He admitted it but his clock management and “plan” was so god awful it makes me wonder how long he’ll last. 3 timeouts and a minute on the clock? Bet, let’s attempt longest fg ever rather than putting the ball in the hands of the player u just paid 250m lol

    Whitey O'Banion

@Scott Flipiak No. Blame those fumbles on the O-line. Gordon had no choice but to reach out as it was 4th down and the line created no holes, no push. Williams fumbled after his own linemen got pushed into him, not to mention that the snap was also late.

It would have been better to go for FGs there than a 64-yard one at the end with a 1 minute left, 3-time outs, and only 5 yards to go for a first down.

    Jacob

@Trevor Thompson I think he’ll learn from his mistakes.

    Scott Flipiak

    @Whitey O’Banion True . . . .
We can All be Monday Morning QBs, with a bunch of Would of, Should of, & Could of . . . . .

But ALSO Why did They Run behind our Right side, especially with Turner being New to the Team ??🏈!!!

One Eyed Jax

Nobody has an undefeated coaching run so im not as worried about the loss as much as how this team responds to it and i think theyre responding well. GO BRONCOS!

    JoeSam Finance

but that field goal call was….

Andrew

Hey he said “we definitely should have gone for it” instead of “we had a good week of practice” that’s awesome. I’m not worried about this team AT ALL.

    Eric Mork

@Andrew I’m not a Broncos fan. I’m a Seahawks fan who was fully prepared to lose last night. I just don’t wanna see Russell fail over there. Glad we pulled it out, but damn. I think there’s a lot more work to be done in Denver than you realize.

    Andrew

@Eric Mork I don’t think so. As a Broncos fan that follows the team religiously and understands this game (former D1 football) they will be fine. I appreciate the conversation though

    jonny goodson

@Andrew I agree man still a lot of games to be played. If the TEs make even one of those catches it was a win.

    Eric Mork

@Andrew appreciate you too. Best of luck

    Andrew

@Eric Mork back at you bro.

Clee totheT

If only they had some games that didn’t count in the standings where they could get more familiarized with each other and kind of get used to playing again after having months off… like some sort of pre-season. Maybe someone should suggest that to the league, it might help a team with new coaches and QB. Nah.

    Name

Do we not already have a 3 game preseason??? We chose not to play our starters because of injury reasons so we are all healthy and not beat up in time for the playoffs, which makes sense.

    Greg Gomez

    @Name sarcasm

Nathan Duffy

I hope Nathaniel Hackett can learn from his mistakes, usually first time head coaches make a lot game clock mistakes, he’s young enough to grow into a good head coach.

    akiva hoffman

    He’s a clown

Tom M

Got to be faster to the line, rushing every play with the play clock hitting 1 or 00 as we are snapping the ball. Rushing to 4 n goals again with the play clock running down, those are the things he will learn. Us the time outs and get the team in the right set and getting on the ball with some time left

ed ubinas

After hearing him explain the thought process behind whether to go for it or kick in that situation it’s a little more understandable but still hard to swallow a loss none the less

    Kory Mulanax

They had a 4.3% chance to make the kick. He had a 48.6% chance of making it on 4th. No explanation in the world would ever excuse that dumb of an idea.

    Fade2Blak91

He’s just sticking to his story, not a single person believes he should have made that choice and Russell should have said I’m going in. You take the loss a lot better if you go for it and don’t get it…a field goal? Nah bro

    Mr. Bondhus2You

@Kory Mulanax that’s just the league average of 4th down conversion as well.. I believe russels was like 68% conversion. So an even more foolish choice.

    SharKKillaG !

You sound just as crazy as him lol….

Charles Townsend

Like I said all preseason, no preseason for starters creates a lethargic effort with greater chance for more mistakes. That is what happened in the first half. All except Jerry Judy. If the rest of the team played like him, Denver would be unbeatable.

Yes, we should have put it away earlier.
Now, going forward, execute better.

If he had made that field goal, this conversation would not be happening.

With that said, LETS RIDE!

    MattyIce21

Depends we are alot more healthy now though too. It’s so hard to say about the preseason stuff.

Riley Mundt

I’m more upset about the 0-4 inside the 10 than I am about the field goal decision. Of all the games I wanted the Broncos to win this season, this was the biggest one. All I can hope for now is you guys get in a groove and put up points. It took the defense the entire first half to figure out what they were doing, and the offense was great until they reached the end zone. Run some goal-line drills with the O-Line this week please.

Ty Tratar

Imagine how upbeat the guy would have been if the broncos had won! Why is he so happy?

    drben 35

    Good question

    Northkut Productions

I don’t think it was a terrible game. 0-4 in the end zone was not good and cost us…the field goal did not lose the game. The entire decision did. SURTAIN held Metcalf to 36 yards. I believe the jitters are gone. The Seattle game is over, time to ride💪😎🏈🏈🔥🔥🔥💔

Laughing At you

Yesterday was 24 hours ago. Let’s talk about your second game coming up. Live and let go. So far you did a great job of holding the hawks to 17 points is incredible and if I was Seattle and Geno could only give 17 points and no signs of scoring there in trouble. The broncos beat themselves Yesterday. Coach you did great a learning curve and live and let go. Never stay in the past and stay in the present to get ready for the future. Week 2 begins.

Christopher Barfield

I feel like the game calling was call soft. In my mind. They should have been real aggressive after half. No one could stop none of the WR’s . I hope we play aggressive next week. No one can’t stop us but us. Play aggressive!!!!!!!!!

Matt Baird

I was upset about the loss but then I thought for a bit and realized that was an awesome game. The crowd noise was unbelievable and we still moved the ball. I’m used to 6 years of 3 and outs with a punt or failed 4th down conversion. I enjoyed the game the loss doesn’t matter on to week two!!

    Evergreen

Why did Russ only have 2 rushing yards on 1 attempt?

    Mario Lewis

💯. Even after what Denver went through on the road, broncos actually played pretty decent. Just imagine if they work out all the kinks we gonna be good.

    Just My Opinion

    @Evergreen cuz he’s almost 34

    Jmoney

Targets Jeudy only 7 times on 40+ throws

    BBY

I see 364 yards and a TD for a Denver QB and us picking up so many first downs I’m happy. Upset me in the end but he looked good

Amasterclasher

I’m so confused. Did he just say he was trying to trick the refs into giving him a 4th time out?? what would that have even done?

abradolf lincler

We have to remember that russ hasn’t been out of Seattle for even a year and that’s the first game, russ did well and he played well. We just missed a lot of coverages and those 2 fumbles would have been the W. We just have to tighten up and stay strong

Slappy Senpai

Denver attempted two 4th down goal-line runs from the shotgun and in one of those shotgun formations there were 4 receivers split out from the offensive line, which doesn’t make sense situationally. When you run the ball out of shotgun the RB has to move sideways in order to take the handoff and in a goal-line scenario you want your ball carrier to build momentum by moving towards the line of scrimmage. This is simple football logic but apparently this guy is some sort of offensive genius. Most of the coaches I’ve seen are too “smart” for their own good.

Resto Ron

The scariest message Hackett sent in the press conference was that he had a plan and no matter what new evidence or information he got the plan would not change. This is born of arrogance or a closed mind.

James Rose Estate Agent

Let’s just hope Hackett’s late game melt downs can get sorted quickly. He & Rodgers were the same at Green Bay. Full blown meltdowns late in games

Kapalua7

Way too early in his stint as HC to see a major debacle like this one. Now I’m worried about how he’ll handle the team the rest of his rookie year. Is he really ready for prime time? I’ll give him (some) credit for stepping up and responding to the waves of national criticism. I’m sure the Broncos PR chief had something to do with that, as coaches never like to admit when they’re wrong.
