@Benn Daniel Vai those safeties are hyped to be the best at their positions let along hyped to be the best defensive player in the NFL. Myles had plenty of time to blow any of those plays up. On that play he had all day going 1 on 1 against a rookie. A rookie kept Myles in check. Let that sink in.

But the Browns Defense had the chance to pick off Baker several times, but didn’t.

@Edward Gaines yes I agree on that note..jacoby plays a safe game he throws dive and jump balls a lot..and keep em away from 30+ yard throws..so I’m afraid if a team can shut down our run game we maybe in trouble..here’s to hoping they can at least win 6 before Watson steps in. But in hindsight how fresh can a guy be”star or not” sitting almost 2 seasons. SMH..

@Edward Gaines but overall I think the browns defense did great..but in those last 6 mins they were letting off the gas in a very browns fashion..

@TVaR defense will sink in again, Gaines will chill finally again…and yes of Jacoby gets us 6 I’ll be happy. Especially division games.

@Peter Lepper lmfao. He had plenty of time to get to the qb on that busted coverage. He was literally stopped 1 on 1 by a rookie. Sweet. He got a couple sacks. Their offense wasn’t doing anything to that point. Nice, he got to pad stats. Where tf was he in crunch time. It’s not just this game either. This guy is hyped as arguably the best, yet more times than not he’s nowhere to be found in crunch time. This has happened every year he’s been a pro. Every time people make excuse after excuse for why he doesn’t show up in crunch time. I’m just tired of the hype. Trade this dude for maximum value. Why do you think he didn’t get 1 vote for defensive poy? Not 1. Why?

@Josh Smith I have gone back and watched the tape and not *once* can I find an instance of him being “stopped” one on one by the rookie. Either he was double-teamed, or the play went in a different direction and he had no opportunity. These things happen.

We would be insane to trade him. Whatever you think of him, his presence on the field is huge. Forget the fact that he was #5 in the League in sacks last year, forget the fact that he recovered his own strip-sack for a touchdown – the man has an enormous impact on the game, plain and simple. He draws double- and triple-teams, freeing up the other defenders to make plays. He puts a huge amount of pressure on the QB because they know they have to get the ball out of their hands quick or they’re going down.

As to why he got no DPOY votes? I couldn’t say. Lots and lots of really good defensive players also got no votes. That’s the nature of the beast. There can only be one winner. What I consider more important is the opinion of the other players who actually line up with or against him, and they all seem very impressed.

@Peter Lepper rewatch the play where the coverage was blown and Baker had that bomb. He was chipped and was 1 v 1 with the rookie. That play took enough time for Garrett to make a play, but he was stopped by the rookie. Look closer and get off Myles jock. He’s done this his entire career this far. He rarely shows up in crunch time. Time and time again he disappears in the 4th in tight games. I don’t need a stat filler. I want someone like a TJ Watt that doesn’t make excuses, he just wrecks games. Again, why didn’t Garrett get a single vote?

On the play you’re talking about, it’s literally 3.5 seconds from the snap until the ball leaves Mayfield’s hands. Garrett gets his momentum broken by the TE #80, pushes past the rookie, realizes Baker’s run the other way, turns around… and the ball’s gone.

Garrett has never made excuses for himself, and he has wrecked plenty of games. How about the Bears game last year where he broke the franchise single-game sack record with 4.5? Or the Ravens game where we would have lost without his stripsack-touchdown?

I’m not saying he’s the best defensive player in football, but he’s certainly the best defensive player on the Browns’ roster; I would argue the best defensive player we’ve ever had. He’s on track to break the Browns’ all-time sack record this season, with plenty of time left to go in his career. I don’t know how you can see 2 sacks, 1 FF – against a QB who knows how he plays inside and out – and say he has anything to make excuses for.

You are obsessing over this DPOY thing. You know who votes for DPOY? Sports writers from the Associated Press. I tend to put more stock in the Pro Bowl and the NFL top 100, because those are voted on by the players; the people who are actually in the games and whose opinions count. Garrett has gone to the Pro Bowl 3/5 years of his career – the only times he didn’t was his rookie year, and the year he was suspended because of the brawl with Rudolph.
