Montee Ball’s Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 11

It took some time, but Denver Broncos rookie running back Montee Ball has officially recorded his breakout fantasy game.

In Sunday’s win over the Kansas City Chiefs, Ball carried the ball eight times for just 25 yards, but scored two touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 16 yards.

CBS Sports’ Will Brinson forecast a big finish to 2013 for the rookie:

Montee Ball coming out party. Looking like he could be a TD hog down the stretch.

Ball struggled with a decent workload in the early part of the season, resulting in him getting just four combined carries in a three-week span.

He followed that up in Week 8 by posting his best performance as a pro at the time, with 12 carries for 38 yards against the Washington Redskins and his first career touchdown. After just five carries last week against San Diego Chargers, he was given opportunities this weekend and capitalized.

It’s hard to see Ball coming anywhere close to knocking off Knowshon Moreno as the Broncos’ feature back, considering the way the University of Georgia product has emerged this year.

Would you start Montee Ball moving forward?

Would you start Montee Ball moving forward?

  • Yes, he’s worth the risk

  • No, his workload is too unpredictable

However, in a Peyton Manning offense and on a team that sees many sizable leads, you’d have to think that Ball could get many more chances at fantasy points. Plus, he showed a nose for the end zone that could prove beneficial to his fantasy owners.

Ball is owned in more than 70 percent of ESPN leagues and started in 25 percent, so he’s been on the waiver radar heavily—if not drafted and held onto by the same fantasy owner all season.

When the matchup calls for it, Ball could be a flex option in many standard leagues. But it’s quite a gamble, considering the unpredictability in his season thus far.
