Michael Cox’s Full Fantasy Scouting Report Following Da’Rel Scott’s Injury

The New York Giants are getting ridiculously thin at the running back position, and that means more opportunities for guys like Michael Cox to break out, although you’ll have to be playing in a very deep fantasy football league to even consider picking him up.

Ian Rapoport from NFL.com reported that running back Da’Rel Scott had injured his hamstring, and it appears that he could be out for the next couple of weeks.

More injuries at RB for #Giants: Da’Rel Scott suffered a strained hamstring on Thursday. Per agent Chitta Mallik, should be out a few weeks

This was yet another injury in the Giants backfield. Adam Schefter reported that David Wilson could miss a couple of weeks with a neck injury, and he will be meeting with doctors to figure out how serious it really is.

Giants RB David Wilson, nursing a neck injury, is scheduled to meet with Dr. Robert Watkins in LA Monday. Wilson out a few weeks, for now.

With Wilson and Scott out, that leaves Cox and Brandon Jacobs in the backfield, but if you’re a fantasy owner, I would steer clear of Cox until he actually gets some carries.

We have yet to see Cox play in the 2013 season. With the injuries on Thursday, the Giants felt confident in just leaving Jacobs out there, leaving the rookie to sit on the sideline. He may start to see some snaps next week after Jacobs lost a fumble in the second quarter, but it’s not likely that we see a lot of him.

Cox wasn’t an extremely productive running back at Massachusetts. He ran for 710 yards and five touchdowns, but averaged just 3.6 yards per carry. He didn’t do a whole lot in the preseason either, running for 32 yards on 18 carries.

Unless you are in an incredibly deep league, picking up Cox at this point isn’t worth it. Wait until he actually stats getting some carries before even considering stashing him on your bench.
