While Manningham failed to record a single target or catch last week, his presence on the field is still vital to the 49ers’ passing attack. Since his return, coverage on Anquan Boldin has been much lighter and that has helped open up the passing attack for Colin Kaepernick.
Manningham is one of those players whose value in reality doesn’t translate to the fantasy world. While he isn’t being used as a decoy per se, his role is really to be a threat to the defense and draw coverage away from the other receivers. There will be times when he is open and will haul in some good catches, but his overall production is too spotty for fantasy owners to trust in their lineups.
