Lovie Smith’s First Press Conference as Head Coach | Houston Texans – FANTASY FOOTBALL FAN SITE

I would love for him to get peanut Tillman as a defensive back coach

    Eric Bahr

I was shocked to find out that FBI Agent makes more than 20K more on average than an NFL DB coach…unless I did the maths wrong

    Mike O

    @Eric Bahr highly doubt that

    Matt Hix

Tillman said he always wanted to be an FBI agent. But went into the NFL to play football instead

    Eric Bahr

@Mike O maybe not, just googled average salaries for both and thats what it came up with. Didn’t look any further than that though so maybe not

    LadyC

I will be watching Texas now.

Bacari Walker

I believe he gone bring in Andre Johnson as a WR coach

    Greg P

@Eric Jackson He had many years to prove himself at Illinois. They made absolutely no improvement the entire time that he was there.

    Eric Jackson

@Greg P He sucked as a college coach and had no business there. I’m not judging an NFL coach by their college track record. If that were a valid measure, Urban Meyer should’ve been the second coming of Bill Belichek.

    Greg P

@Eric Jackson Okay, but man, if Lovie Smith was really a good head coaching prospect in the year 2022, don’t you think at least one team of the nine other teams that needed head coaches would have requested an interview with him? I think he is mostly considered a relic of the past. I mean the defensive schemes that he runs are ancient, and the defense was horrible last season.

    Eric Jackson

@Greg P I don’t think he is who the Texans had in mind honestly. I think they fired Culley when Flores was available (Flores and Cesario with the New England connection). Once the lawsuit happened, my guess is that was out. I’m not even under the impression they did a real search and interview process. Josh McCown was a leading candidate for Christ sake. I don’t think he was a hot candidate either. I do think he was given a bad deal in a horrible FO situation in Chicago. He basically got a gift. Hope it works out.

    Greg P

@Eric Jackson Okay. Sounds reasonable. And I agree. I don’t think the Texans even had a real serious search for a coach. They interviewed 6 people, while the average number of people that the other teams interviewed was 14.

Chris Anders

Go Lovie! Go Texans!! Hope he can take us to win a SB with Davis and the boys.

    Greg P

    6-11

Youngboy 4 LiFe

I hope this time Texans do way better 💚

solitas03

Honestly wanted Lovie after Kubs. While almost a decade later, glad we finally got him. Hopefully he can get this franchise back on track. Congrats Lovie!

Nathan Cano

I know Lovie will do well. I’m confident Nick will trade Deshaun for high draft picks come NFL draft. The talent is already there on the defensive side.

    Scott Green

There’s absolutely very little talent on both sides of the ball.

    Nathan Cano

@Scott Green The Texans were top 10 in the NFL in takeaways last season. They were also the only team in the NFL who was top 10 in takeaways not to make playoffs, either.

    Jerz Rue

    Meh

thasherjo22

As long as he keeps that beard his whole tenure I’ll be okay with it. Pep Hamilton as the OC is what made me happy about this staff

    NubaStyle

LOL! I AGREE! MAGNIFICANT! Isn’t it?

Toast

Hopefully with Pep as OC we won’t see as much running down the middle anymore

    Robert Craft

You have to run up the middle to keep linebackers from cheating.

    Toast

@Robert Craft I don’t mind running down the middle….just not every dam play like Tim used to do…made us too predictable

Randall Gipson

Not gone lie he killed it last year on defense no cap 🔥

    Sebastian de Ases

Hell ya it was the best thing we had to offer last season

Stay Original

Im honestly disappointed that I don’t see Jack Easterbay congratulating Lovie Smith. Congrats Lovie hope you make the texans strong again.

Scott Champion

As a Bears Fan I approve this hire! Go Lovie!

    LadyC

In agreement, as another Bears fan. Texas has a honorable man in Lovie Smith as coach, Congrats!

    George and Ruth Mallory

I don’t think Lovie ever got a fair shake down here in Tampa either. I wish him well.

Midway7 Monster

I’m a Bears fan and you got a Great Coach! He shouldn’t have been fired after 2012. I am rooting for you guys!

Yrvan Michel

This is coming from a Bears fan that never wanted Lovie to go. Give this man what he needs. And HE WILL WIN

    luoi sant

@Greg P He’s a diversity hire and a coach with a terrible win loss record

    Logan Stolberg

    Stop living in the past

    Yrvan Michel

@Logan Stolberg how is thinking he’s a good coach living in the past ? I just want the guy to get a chance. If he wins, great. If he doesn’t, Texans get a new coach

    Greg P

@Yrvan Michel The reason that I am a couple of people responded the way we did is that it does seem like your living in the past in your original post. You said that he will win based on what he did with the Bears some fifteen or so years ago. That’s the distant past in the NFL. It’s better to look at how someone has done more recently and if you look at Lovie Smith it hasn’t been pretty. I wish him the best of luck, he was once a good coach years and years ago, and he seems like a really good guy, but I’m setting the bar extremely low

    John Bienasz II

@Yrvan Michel yeah i live in illinois as well. He couldn’t recruit st louis and failed to recruit his own state somehow .Now to be fair he did increase the talent that went into the nfl. As a bear fan though . That’s my coach

David Edwards

I hope they give home a real chance. Great coach! Great person!

James Prouse

I love the Bears. But I was really mad when he was let go in Chicago. He will be great with the Houston Texans. If they put the town around him he will go to the Super Bowl

S Hooch

As a Bear fan I miss Lovie after the last two HCs. Lovie will not be high power and not flashy but he will bring discipline, focus, and drive to the Texans. The man is a motivator, a great motivator.

Terminator X

I love the hire. I was scared; I thought we would lose Lovie as a DC in 2022. I really hope we get a really good offensive line and defensive line coach.

LadyC

Texas has a honorable man in Lovie Smith as coach. As a Bear fan, I can barely wait to see him as head coach in NFL again. I’m wondering if Watson will stay as QB1 to benefit from Lovie’s experience. That would be something special to see them work together.

Catfish And Bass

I’m a Colts fan, but I want the best for Lovie Smith and the Houston Texans! Let’s get some more competition in the AFC South!

William Koscielniak

As a Bears fan I wish Lovie all of the success in the world!
