@Fat Boy i mean no one denies ben is having a better season overall but you have to remember CPOTY isnt only about on field perfomance, its also about what the athlete has overcome to be in that situation, and in that regard smith is the clear winner, dude shouldn’t even be playing today, he almost DIED from his injury, the mere fact that he was able to survive is a huge accomplishment but to also be able to walk again and start for a nfl team is unbelievable and will remain for ever in nfl history books. Now if you also add that in the one game the two clear contenders for CPOTY get to face eachother alex smith gets the W with a significantly worse team and also plays a better game that ben, ending the Steelers undefeated record and putting Washington in a good position to win the division and make the playoffs, i think that makes a really good case for alex smith to win CPOTY.

Hmmmm…..Ben is out a year with an elbow injury right?
Alex almost lost his leg…almost died….went through 17 surgeries….and 20 months of rehab….why is there even a debate about who is “Comeback Player of the Year”?….it amazing that he is even walking, let alone playing at a high level and passing for over 300 in a win!

@Fat Boy, If I recall, Alex Smith has only played in 6 out of the 12 games this year. Two of those games he came in the relieve an injured starter—-both ended in losses, but in one—-against the Lions—-he nearly rallied them to a last minute win. He is 3-1 as a starter. The lone loss was a 3 point set back to the Giants. I think it has been remarkable. You can make an argument for both Ben and Alex as CPOTY. But there’s still plenty of ball to be played. They still have games against the 49ers, Seahawks, Panthers and Eagles. I predict they will split those games and finish 7-9. That probably won’t be enough to win the division as the Giants have the tie breaker having won both games (by a combined 4 points)….
