NASHVILLE, Tenn. — So long as he’s in the mix to be the Tennessee Titans‘ quarterback in 2014, Jake Locker won’t have any objection to life after Mike Munchak.

Locker was asked during a radio interview with The Wake Up Zone in Nashville how he would feel about competing for the starting quarterback job, now that Munchak has been fired.

“I’m OK with that,” Locker said. “As long as I get the opportunity to compete for it, I’ll be thankful for it.”

Locker is doing upper-body work while rehabilitating from Lisfranc foot surgery to correct an injury that ended his season in Week 10.

A first-round draft pick in 2011, Locker entered each of the past two seasons as Tennessee’s starter but missed significant time due to injuries. He missed five games in 2012 because of a shoulder injury and appeared in just seven games this season due to leg and foot injuries.

The 25-year-old Locker completed 60.7 percent of his passes this season for 1,256 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. The Titans went 4-3 in the seven games Locker started.

Locker said he’s gotten texts from offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains and quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone and expressed appreciation for the work both have done to help his career.

Locker also expressed gratitude for Munchak, the head coach who was on board with drafting Locker eighth overall in 2011.

Munchak was fired Saturday following a 7-9 season. It marked the fifth straight season that the Titans missed the playoffs and the third under Munchak, who went 22-26 with Tennessee.

“I was disappointed to see him go,” Locker said. “He was somebody I respected as a person, as a coach.”

Titans assistant coaches who are still under contract have not been fired by general manager Ruston Webster. Those in town met with him as a group Monday morning to discuss their future with the team.
