I’m trying to find the silver lining in this pick. Hopefully he’ll become a bulldozing LG so they can have a dominant running game again. Maybe that’s their plan. Anything other than that just makes less and less sense to me the more I think about it.
The reaction in the room after the pick tells you everything. They weren’t exactly high fiving. I just hope this kid turns out to be solid. I’m not expecting pro bowl, but solid.
@Delwin Alvarez i disagree completely, but even at what you say, They picked 24th…. were your saying they expect a starter. Not a pro bowler.
@James Runge if you don’t expect a pro bowler with your 1st rounder it’s a wasted pick. Either way we could’ve had that DE Johson who was projected to be a top 10 at worst top 15 pick and is a need for us. But as usual Jerry went the other route
@Delwin Alvarez I’m not in love eith the pick( more about the position coach he will have than the player) but at 24 I get it. Johnson at 24 made sense but I’mnot heartbroken about him. He is very capable when he wants to be but disappeard in alot of games so. I’m the end Dallas has drafted more pro bowlers in the last 10 years than any other team in the league so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt even though I don’t agree with them.
@James Runge I’ll give him a chance as well because I do think McClay is a fantastic talent evaluator but the truth is Jerry Jones has butted in and ruined picks so often. I hope I’m wrong, but at the moment picking a 2nd round graded over a top 10 DE, that we also need, was a terrible choice

This pick was SOOO bad considering the Best players available they could have chosen! LB Llyod or DE Johnson should have been their pick. Atleast you get a top ranked player with either of those! Defense line gets stronger…Linebackers get stronger…. This guy Smith isn’t even a top 10 rank???? With Johnson or Llyod the defense gets a Day 1 starter! Hell, if they REALLY REALLY wanted a O lineman that bad…why the hell didn’t you get the Center Linderbaum??? He’s the best ranked center in the draft! The O line get’s improved with that pick Day 1!!! Jones will defend his bad move like he always does. It’s not like the rest of the draft is gonna get better from here. This 1st round was the worst pick I have seen in over 30 years of being a Cowboys fan. I think it’s time to find a new team to cheer for.
