i love this team❤let’s make some big time moves this season that benefits us. get a qb to sit behind kirk for maybe one more year. develop o line. get another explosive receiver. fire ed. and i love this team.

    TheThatcher

    Like Alex Smith and Mahomes

    Joe Schmoe

I agree, they won’t move KC until after the 2023 season, his contract is huge, so they have to be smart. He certainly was not the problem this year, so maybe see if he’ll come back for less.

EDM Adam

Here’s what needed to be said:

“We’re grateful for the success we had, we failed on Defense. We have a great head coach. We have a great team. We’re firing Ed Donatell. We’ll see you in September”

    Briana W

@Wolf Wang again the lowest scoring game was the Benglas game, you’re wrong, but the way it sounds you loved the 3rd & 2 pass to Cousins, super creative. Defense didn’t stop them correct, Vikings offense only stops themselves. Considering how you look at our offense the Giants had a stifling defense, world champ defense! Which again you’re wrong Vikings offense isn’t not that great, especially when we’re being stopped by the Giants

    Briana W

@Wolf Wang just a reminder Giants have are ranked 31st in run defense… VIkings rushed for a total 61yds. Would t you think an “offensive-minded” HC would’ve capitalize on that…

    The Truth

    @Ted Pappenfus Correct.

    tcorbin60

@Ted Pappenfus it still did what it needed to do

    Kanatar

@Ted Pappenfus offense always has to play catch up because defense can’t get a single stop

Tony P

I love this team I am deeply worried what is going to happen to our team and who we are going to lose this off season. But there is one thing I know EVERY FAN WANTS FIRE ED DONATELL!!!!

    Joseph Lee

He won the central division, dumb-dumb

    MrSrtman18

Fortunately, fans dont have a say, because most dont have a clue. Who we lose, another good thing fans have no say in the result. Id say 19, 22, 4, should start looking for jobs elsewhere to start. More coming.

    Joe Schmoe

Personally I think we’ll lose Smith, Thielen, Peterson, and Kendricks. This was the last year we are going to see the Zimmer guys. I think KOC loves em, but it would free up a bunch of cap space for the D

    Tony P

@Joe Schmoe I could agree with some of those except Kendricks. With the others aging and needing cap space. I also could see us trading cook for draft picks. So much uncertainty sadly I will be sad to lose any of these players listed.

Julie Leber

Well another year of life because I’ve always said that I want to see a Vikings SB win before I die. Cheers to another year of life 💜💛

Paul D

This needed to be a Ed Donatell-Ending Press Conference. If they dont get rid of him, I will have lost all faith in Kewsi and KOC.

    Paul D

@A Jonesy Kwesi hasn’t convinced me he is a good GM either, although I give him a A+++ for the Hockenson trade. I will have to see how the draft goes this year and if he passes on top talent to trade for more picks again, which I didn’t like at all. Im not a draft expert by any means, but I ‘d just rather have my 1st round pick instead of trading it away.

    Wolf Wang

@A Jonesy it’s literally 1 year guys and he brought in good talent lol

    yourmomsuncle

@A Jonesy koc did fine. kwesi and zygi should be taking full blame for hiring donatell. we would have been absolutely ELITE with a good DC that didn’t run same 3-4 zone defense every play

    The Truth

Agreed, they look are really starting to look foolish now. He should have been fired mid season why they are waiting around now is completely stupid.

    tcorbin60

@A Jonesy true. They let us down. That decision to fire him should’ve been after week 8. These 2 assholes here show me their not hungry

Matt G

KO seemed to make a strong commitment to Matt Daniels for next season on the final question but deflected on the Donatell question 👍

Sean Novack

“Bend Don’t Break” broke way too often, and that’s what happened. In the biggest game of the year the defense gave up more than 6 yards on average every play, forced zero turnovers, allowed the opposing quarterback to run for more than 70 yards on various plays, and forced a grand total of 2 punts all game – the first of which wasn’t until the 3rd quarter. They allowed the Giants offense to be on the field for 11 minutes more than Kirk & Co.
Donatell is wearing two Super Bowl rings earned as a Defensive Coordinator, so he had the resume to be able to push back on his Offensive minded Head Coach a bit. However, those rings are a quarter-century old at this point, and his Defensive scheme just got walked over all season and cost his team in the playoffs. People are being polite, but we all know he’s gone.

    Cullen Dillard

Name an NFL defense that consistently stops all phases of an offense when they’re playing against a mobile QB? Are you not aware that the league’s rules are slanted towards offensive success versus defensive prowess? In order to have a dominating defense, a team needs very specific components:

    1. A defensive game plan flexible enough to disrupt 50 to 55% of what the offenses you face wants to execute
    2. The right players to execute your defensive game plan
    3. Enough qualified depth on you roster to account for injuries
    4. Players and coaches dedicated to the overall vision, and a willingness to approach each task with a locked in mindset
    5. A ton of luck

Tom Brady is the only player I know of that has told his team’s leadership to give him a team friendly contract to ensure that he has the weapons to effectively execute the team’s game plan. Most players that are second string or less wants to be a starter, with starter pay and playing time. How many of these individuals leave the franchise that helped them develop goes elsewhere and have the same success from a team’s point of view?

We live in a world that is slanted towards a ‘me first’ attitude more than ever. As long as that is the pervasive mindset, fans will see more disappointment than success.

Just the opinion of an individual that has had the pleasure to work within an NFL franchise to see how a team is built for success or failure.

    SKOL!!!!

    Briana W

Kirk Cousins broke a few times too this season especially on the one time we needed him 4th down season on the line…

Steve Tanner

Interior O-Line and interior D-Line

Run the ball effectively and stop the run are what Champions are made of in the NFL. I have faith we will be better at both next year but unless we catch lightning in a bottle in the draft or free agency we are a couple souls drafts away….

Joe DiGregorio

As bad as this season ended. It was a good season. But it’s time to turn the page. Ed donatell has to go and a lot of players need to be let go/moved on from. We have to start rebuilding. It sucks to have bad seasons but sometimes that’s the only way to become championship worthy. Can’t keep paying top dollar to aging older players. This is a young man’s game.

Skol Vikings

Year 1 with Kwesi & KOC was a successful season.
• Division Title
• 3rd seed in the NFC
• 13-4

The standard is a championship and unlike past regimes, they are both not fearful to own mistakes to get to the ultimate goal.
Building a healthy sustainable culture doesn’t grow overnight.
I love how they both preach & reflect on high expectations for themselves and players.
That’s winning culture.
I’m looking forward to year 2 and the continued growth of this organization. SKOL!!!

    Skol Vikings

    @Blu J Kirk Cousins vs Giants had 273 yds, 2 TD’s with 112.9 rating.
If you blame Kirk for the playoff loss, that tells me everything.
You clearly didn’t watch the game and haven’t watched the Vikings all season long. The defense was ranked 31st in the league and we had injures to our OL.
Thanks for the comment but try again 🤣

    Blu J

@Skol Vikings All the Kirk nutjobs do the same thing. Recite the stats but don’t comment on any of the negatives that prevent him from being a next level talent. When was the last time you actually watched anything but a stat sheet?

Guy is not worth the money. And if they extend him I guarantee you’re going to see more one and dones until he is gone if you even get lucky enough to get there.

    Skol Vikings

@Blu J You claimed all Kirk Cousins does was pad stats but ignore the Vikings 13-4 record.
Finding “next level talent” only comes from 3-5 top tier players in the league and is a unrealistic standard.
Cousins also the 10th highest paid QB so that argument is out the window too 🤣

    Blu J

@Skol Vikings “haha we won guys it doesn’t matter that we were statistically a super mediocre team on offense and historically bad on defense and was the worst team with this record by score in NFL history. Everything is fine. Elite QB. Extend cousins and keep firing everyone to keep him around.”

    Skol Vikings

    @Blu J
    1. Vikings ranked 8th in offense.

    2. Thanks for repeating my point as worst defense in NFL history

    3. No one has been fired 💀🤡

JJ

If Tj didn’t have so much YAC leading up to the final play I think Kirk goes to Jefferson. He knew if he threw to JJ 1. He probably would’ve got sacked since he was underdress all game and season, 2. Everything leading up to that final play said the right throw was to TJ (even though he got tackled before he could get the first down) TJ should’ve broke it and gained the first down easily. According to kirks conscious.

Greg Bryan

Yeah I’ve always said for so many years…wait until next year…but I knew we were not Super Bowl material, our defense needs a lot of work, I believe coach needs to fire Donnatell, but we are heading in the right direction

DAKILL gaming

We all know it was D that slit our thoarts, what really bothers me is that the coach is too young and couldn’t pull the trigger and fire the D coach. I think the mid season change could of put us in a better more balanced team.

Brian M.

I like that Kwesi acknowledged the pain this fanbase has felt and is feeling.

TJ 803

Great 1st year 💜💛. I’m not that nervous about the defensive rebuild because we were dead last lol so it can’t get any worse. Need to get a better coordinator and let the young guys loose

Rain RB

For a team with a New GM, Mostly new front office staff, New HC, new Coaches, new offensive scheme, and new defensive scheme, no one can say the season was a failure. Division champs, 13-4, JJ almost breaking the record!

From where the team was just a season ago you can tell they are on the right track.

But please fire Ed Donatell!

    Joe Schmoe

Most of the credit goes to KOC and a strong veteran locker room. Some of those guys won’t be coming back so next year won’t be like this.

dmacnic

Loved the 13-4 season, but serious Defensive changes are needed. The Defense was sickening to watch in that playoff game. Embarrassing. Made Daniel Jones look like Joe Montana and Barry Sanders in the same game. Watch him fail miserably when he plays a real Defense against the Eagles this week.

David Sherman

Still upset over that loss to the Giants. I was worried about their defense all year and know that they were very fortunate to have won several games in almost miracle fashion. I to thought this would be the year that they could well have a breakthrough and finally win the Super Bowl. I have been around long enough to experience all 4 previous Super Bowl losses, and this loss last Sunday had the same feeling. I will always love the Minnesota Vikings but they sure need to make some major changes

Kevin Wilson

This presser is such a crossroads for me. Kwesi and KOC took over a franchise with winning potential but many beloved yet aging players. I will cherish coach Zimmer and GM Spielman for the great things they did, but I also respect the work KOC And Kwesi have done since they were let go. A ton of beloved veterans are on the potential chopping block after this special season and I understand it’s a business but I must say how much we love you all ni matter what happens. Harrison Smith belongs in the ring of honor. In a perfect world, so does Adam Thielen because he’s a native. Kendricks and Cook are so special as well. We don’t have Super Bowl titles yet, but we have plenty of Glory to celebrate and it’s because of players like you. SKOL forever.

Jefff

Now, I think KOC is the HC we need but Donatel had me missing Zimmer’s double A-gap blitzes. Zim wasn’t much for an HC because he ignored or held back the O. But as a D play caller, he was very good. Ok the last couple of years, he didn’t have a guy like Linval Joseph to shut down the middle. BTW, I love going back and watching his TD against Philly.
