@McMold I don’t think so. At least I saw when I went to playoffpredictor.com I had the entire NFC West winning as many games as possible and it still had them all of them making the playoffs. (They can all go 13-3 by the way).

we had try outs for punter in HS one time, and i tried to punt like that cus i also played rugby. it didnt go well. a Football is much different than a Rugby ball, so that just shows how amazing of a punter Hecker is.

Punting a football is a bit different. But the most important part is consistency. You can afford some changes in trajectory in Rugby or the AFL. In American football, they expect you to land the ball at appropriate range all the time, as well as landing in it in a way that make sure the returning team don’t return for a TD. Catching a punt is said to be quite a niche job as well, not everyone can do it effectively. AFL players are moving to the NFL as well, so there’s that.

The Bears punt returner doesn’t know that you can catch the ball and it still be a fair catch. I just watched this man wave for a fair, let the ball bounce back towards the Rams endzone, and just stand there on multiple occasions
Yeah, because if it goes into the endzone on a punt they get the ball on the 20, but if he fair catches it inside the 20, he essentially loses yards
hekker kick a knuckleball there. and its inside of their 10. so you better not risk it
Or, he is smart enough to know how hard it is to catch a knuckler and doesn’t want to risk a turnover by muffing the ball 🙂
@Nollege Its just simply smarter to let the ball go. It can be really difficult to catch a football like that, especially with the Rams special teams nearby. Give credit to Hekker

@John K I had to watch that one twice to make sure I was really seeing where he kicked it from. A kicker like that who can literally change the games field position needs to be paid.

I’ve been a Bears fan for more than 40 years and I know decent teams. This is not a good team this year, and an OK start out of the box will not get them all the way. So-so teams like the Rams tonight will expose the Bears flaws, and they’ll be lucky to have a 9-7 season.
