John Harbaugh Explains Two-Point Conversion Decision vs. Packers | Baltimore Ravens – FANTASY FOOTBALL FAN SITE
Ivan Alvarado

I am tired of excuses. Hollywood was wide open

    Cody Rowston

They say the same thing every week

    Ivan Alvarado

@Cody Rowston yup and the two points always fail

Texas Man94

Should’ve taken the field goal on the first drive

    Ravens76 B'more

    Yes i agree.
    That is the difference.
    It would’ve been 33-31 Ravens.

    Michael Hession

As a Ravens fan they were losing that game anyways. Who was going to Rodgers if he got a chance to win the game especially since we have a JV Secondary.

    cj stats

Everything changes if they kick that field goal. Including field position. They prob don’t score the TD on the next possession, or Packers score another TD. It’s not a 1 to 1.

Free Wifi

Last three games. We lost by 4 points. A FG in each game, instead of going for 4th and not converting. We could be 11-3 right now. Why not just kick the FG.

    Yippie37

We got a TD after we stopped them and got good field territory, that’s part of the decision of going for it.

    Major_Shake_

@Yippie37 It was definitely part of a terrible decision. Could be 11-3

    Rico .S

    So true, smh.

    Jim

Exactly especially with the best kicker in the NFL

    I'm Going Supersonic

    We, we, we. Lol.

Mike B

He said it was a good decision to throw to mark when every player on defense was locked on to him? Dudeā€¦.

    CrypticsRevenge

Exactly after the game mark had it was clear they were going to him

    Rico .S

    Smh exactly

    Tshyne

Everyone in the world, and every alien in the universe knew we were going to Mark!

    ehjd09

@Tshyne Yes, the story of this team–repeated failures on plays/schemes and a refusal to adapt and make changes. Their (coaches) arrogant belief in a system that is failing defies rationality.

    Francisco Davis

    No accountability

Pizza Man

I donā€™t care what anyone says, HC lost the game tonight for the Ravens, The team played great tonight but the HC lost the game!!!!!

    B James

The first game of the season and the last three games as well

    malbrook23

Man I hate to say this but Iā€™m ready for a change this is ridiculous the fact that the front office an above are not saying anything when these stupid decisions are being made

    The Last Crusade

Great words. Even non sport fans can understand a cut this deep with that phrase

ehjd09

Anyone else out there feel like we’re beating ourselves. Ravens gave up 3 sure points on that first drive. If it’s 4th and 5, and the game has just started, why take the risk and lose points. Makes absolutely no sense and you don’t need analytics to know the smart choice is a sure 3 points against nfc top seed. You have another 4th and long with 12 minutes left in game, and your team has been playing fantastic defense. Again, if the offense isn’t rolling at that point, it does not seem logical to go for it on 4th down. GB gets 3 points as a result of this call. Despite this horrible coaching, Ravens get a touchdown, and with 1 point after have a tie game and a chance to win. Why or why, with the best kicker of all time, do you not go for the sure bet to tie the game, and bet on getting the win (at home!). Harbaugh gave this game to GB, and probably has eliminated Ravens chances to get to playoffs (probably his objective). His poor coaching decisions betray the team and the valiant effort they made to take out the nfc top seed. SHAME on Harbaugh!

    HarbingerTV

Seriously? There is a coach discussion? I mean….seriously?
Please tell me that this was your very first game ever watching a football game, because if not….dudes….there is no coaching discussion.

With 27 players out for the game… again: 27!! players out for the game including the starting quarterback … playing against one of the best teams, maybe THE best team of the NFC, with their strength is the passing game with one of THE best WRs of the entire NFL (Devonte Adams) while playing without any cornerbacks the goddamn fucking normal result is 40:3. Just accept that. You cant win any game against one of THE best teams with your fucking practice squat. Just accept that.

Still, the game was close. There was some kind of tension at the end of the game. Even in the last minute there was a chance to win this game.
    THAT is great coaching.
So please show big respect for Coach Harbaugh and the coaching staff to make all that possible. That game was amazing coaching. Of course, there is a loss, that’s a fact for sure. But this game gave so much more. Believe in yourselves. Never give up. Stay calm in tough situations. This game can be a game changer for the future.

@Ry 2-8 on 2 point conversation attempts. He’s costing them games now.

    Supa Stackman

Should of took the 3 points and tie the game up for overtime period.

John Harbaugh is nothing but a 59 year old wannabe šŸ˜‚

Nathen Del Real

Stop going for it on 4th down when you have the best kicker in the NFLā€¦

    Joseph Smith

@Njgrahamma93 it wouldā€™ve been reckless even if they converted. There is too much Fā€™n variance. Flipping a coin for the game is r-worded

    TheFootballMathGuy

@king shark It’s not that Tucker misses. It’s that even when he hits, it’s only 3 points. CAR/LAS/ATL went 40-for-41 on 20-29 yard FGAs last year. They all “took the points.” The all missed the playoffs.

    king shark

@TheFootballMathGuy … you talking teams that arent winning anywho. U telling me leaving 3 on the table, and then missing a 4th down inside your own 30, and gifting a team 3 pts, is good football math… lol today everyone trying they best to defend a coach, that could have been 10-4 , is now 8-6 looking up in the division now, vs having the lead.

    But do tell me anything

    TheFootballMathGuy

@king shark I’m not defending him. He should have used the 2 down 8, not down 1, it’s a lot more valuable down 8. I just explained why in a video I posted. — But Cinci “took the points” 5 times against SF: 3 FGS and 2 PATs. And they lost. “Taking the points” doesn’t just mean automatic wins.

    king shark

@TheFootballMathGuy …. I get you in a sense, but the psychological aspect of points is important. The game is risk/reward, but as troy aikman says the analytics dont have the spirit and momentum of the game in play.

Now, look what happened to the Bengals yesterday, taking every lil point, in fgs… then finally a game broke out, and those bank up points helped them prevail vs Denver.

    Ry

@king shark Boykin is terrible, what do you mean we aren’t using him right? he’s barely on the field and when he does he has stone hands. If he was so great then why did every team pass on him through 2 rounds of the draft?
And Patrick Queen was drafted to be a MLB, not a will LB, he’s lucky he wasn’t traded, benched or just cut outright.

    G.F. Hanks

He’s actually been doing this since he got here. I’ve been screaming for his head on a stick since 2010. The reason he is still around, is because he has always had a ton of talent on his teams. Starting in 2007, if we had hired a competent head coach, we probably would have gone to at least 3 Superbowls, and we would have won at least 2 of them.

    Emmanuel Adeniyi

@Ry Ravens have a very talented receiving core cmon now. And the way Huntleys played, a hidden gem in a back up QB and already talented LJ.

    Ry

@G.F. Hanks That’s a bunch of marlarkey, Harbaugh inherited a mess. The way Ravens fans perceive things before 2008 is close to mythological. We weren’t the glorious team before 2008 that our fans think we were. Let me give a heavy dose of reality. The Ravens were 7 years removed their lone superbowl title when Harbaugh came in, and a big reason why we didn’t win another Superbowl is because Ozzie could never figure out the WR or QB position in the draft until Flacco (a painfully inconsistent QB) and then Jackson (who some aren’t sold on giving a long-term deal yet). We went 5-11 in 2007 and the team was totally undisciplined on both sides of the ball.

The first 12 years of the Ravens franchise history they had a combined 4 playoff appearances, 2 division titles, only 5 playoff wins, only 4 winning seasons and one superbowl. Harbaugh in his first 5 years alone as head coach took us to the playoffs more times, won more playoff games, had more winning seasons, and won the same number of division titles and superbowls than the entire previous 12 year history of our franchise.
But yes it was all Ozzie and Ray right? How come Ray Lewis never went to the playoffs more than 2 years in a row before Harbaugh?

If we simply take Aaron Rodgers when he miraculously fell all the way to the Ravens in 2005 we may have had a dynasty and Billick probably doesn’t even lose his job as early as he did. We didn’t take Rodgers even though we already saw two years Boller, who sucked and was injury prone. After Billick was scapegoated for Ozzie missing great QB after great QB, Harbaugh was brought in to restore hope. Did he have Aaron Rodgers at his disposal? No, he had the painfully inconsistent Joe Flacco, who was never an All-Pro or Pro-Bowler.

And don’t tell me when Harbaugh took over they were two years removed from 13-3 because Ogden, Jamal Lewis, and McNair had all retired at that point and Todd Heap and Mason were older, along with all of our defensive players. We needed to rebuild and reestablish order and discipline. Bringing in Harbaugh turned a possible rebuild with a mediocre rookie QB into a reload and an immediate 6 win turnaround in the regular season and an AFC Championship appearance (one drive away from being the first team to appear in a Superbowl with a rookie QB).

It amazes me how Harbaugh haters are able to spin all the good things he’s done and give all the credit to others, while pinning all the blame on Harbaugh despite where the Ravens were as a franchise before he took over.

408 Batz

Man i feel sorry the Ravens fans for the 2nd time your coach has screwed you all. Rather for the tie, he rather go for the win. I think Ravens could’ve beat the Packers in ot.

    Robert Breckenridge Jr.

If you can’t get 2 points to win you don’t deserve to win. Thstsvmy stance.

    John Batts

@Robert Breckenridge Jr. If 2 points was highly converted everyone would jus go for 2 lol

    Mike 91MDK

They had all the momentum. Offense was hot, defense had just gotten a crucial stop on GB. Most coaches prob trust their guys to finish in a possible OT

    Robert Breckenridge Jr.

@John Batts I would agree. But my point is In context, that the ravens have won quite a few games in OT this season because they can’t get it together in regulation. That’s should be the case. You should come ready to okay ball and handle your business in regulation if you want to win. And from the context, if you can’t get it done in regulation then you don’t deserve to win.

    TheFootballMathGuy

@John Batts It doesn’t even need to be “highly converted.” 40% is enough if it’s used correctly. Use it on the 2nd-to-last score instead of the last. Just posted a video showing that.

SuperMario49

Harbaugh has lost his damn mind this season

    Ryan Blanche

Itā€™s like he wants to get fired.
    I wouldnā€™t mind.

Itā€™s obvious he doesnā€™t have it anymore.

Mironruiz123

We fought till the end, love my Ravens no matter what, still have faith in this team to win the Division and have a Good playoff run..no one wants to win more the the Players and coaches..good decision to go for 2 just shouldnā€™t have stalled, we should have played it with no huddle, should have asked Huntley if he wanted to go for āœŒļø..put them game on his hands right away..LETS GO Ravens!!

Daniel Beverly

It was a terrible play. It didnā€™t work last time. Everybody knew it was coming. The key to going for it is not to go for it every time. So when you go for it there is an element of surprise.

    ehjd09

You’re right. Coaches refuse to adapt and call the same play they’ve seen fail twice before. This has been the story for this season, but just part of the story. There are so many horrors with these keystone cops of coaching.

    Good Time Guy

The call was right but the play was horrible.

    Bird Scofield

The key is actually not to go to the obvious option!! Andrew was eating them up all game, of course they’re gonna give him extra attention!! Or call a better play!

Panda 77

Really don’t agree with the 2-point call there. Ravens had the momentum on both sides of the ball, even Green Bay’s specials teams were lacking at this point. Not going to underestimate what Rodgers could have pulled off in overtime, but I really feel like this was going to be a Raven’s victory in OT.

    410king

@The Last Crusade exactly , on both close games too

    Jericho M

They werent gonna make it to OT. Rodgers wouldā€™ve picked apart ravens d in 40 seconds.

    TheFootballMathGuy

Leaving 42seconds was a mistake. And not going for 2 down 8 was a mistake. Those should be talked about just as much.

    Bob Rossā€™s Dad

As a Vikings fan and 2nd favorite team being the Ravens; 40 seconds and a timeout I think? Either way Rodgers wouldā€™ve been intercepted (unlikely) or gotten a field goal. Going for 2 was the only option imo.

    Quiksta

coming from a packers fan i agree

Mike 91MDK

Bad choice. Your team has all the momentum. Thirteen straight points with a big stop in between. Trust them to get to and win in OT

    TheFootballMathGuy

Get the 2 after getting to 23, then win it with Tucker at the end.

JC

Didn’t trust the team for the 3rd
week.Everyone new it was going to Andrews, the coaches have had 3 bad games

C. S. McLeod

Ravens might not even be wild card. Thanks,Harbaugh!

    KingLo TRG

    Right

Sol MD

Keep going for 2 and going for it on 4th, more about being scared of Rodgers and not trusting this defense. I get we had a ton of injuries and then losing Tavon, but show some faith in your defense to make a play. Should have tied the game and played it out

    Sonic Maniac

    You are right about that

    TheFootballMathGuy

When they ran a 4th down play to beat KC with a kneel down were you advocating the same thing? Punt and let your defense win?

    Sol MD

@TheFootballMathGuy how is taking a knee with the game won the same thing here?

    TheFootballMathGuy

@Sol MD Not the knee, the 4th down play that led to the knee. If you dislike the 2-pt attempts, why don’t you dislike the 4th downs he’s run? You just don’t like the plays that fail. And you’re silent on the plays that work.

    Sol MD

@TheFootballMathGuy I didnā€™t say I liked the 4th down call against the Chiefs. Yes it was successful but also one of those spots where analytics came into play and if it failed, would have been scrutinized heavily.

But, again, at least in the chiefs game we had the lead. In this situation we did not and with the game on the line, I believe this was the wrong decision. Especially considering losing 2 weeks straight at that point and with similar calls coming into play in previous weeks.

Good Time Guy

I dont expect the Ravens to win another game this season.

    Prince Basket

They will win last games for Playoff šŸ™‚

    ehjd09

I don’t expect the Ravens coaching staff to get intelligent, call great games on defense and offense, and not lose the game despite the Ravens Players valiant efforts.

G.F. Hanks

Don’t worry, gang. The next time that we are in this exact same situation, the 2 point conversation will definitely work. I can just feel it. Harbaugh can feel it too.

    Legend

Lol it’s not a matter of that, it’s just execution.

    G.F. Hanks

    @Legend I was being sarcastic.
