RPO, moving pockets, get Herbert out to a different platform for deep passes to the recievers. This has been the recipe for success. When Herbert runs away from everyone and has extended time to launch good things usually happen.
I’m hoping Cook is out for another game. I dont trust that guy they played fine last week against a very good secondary and defense without Cook. He just seems to be the guy to have the major mental lapse or drop to screw them over.
@Anthony They didnt trust his injury history or wanted more than he was worth to this team. He definitely would’ve helped way more this season.
@SouthernBrick he was definitely worth what he wanted and chargers had the cap space. It was just another example of chargers front office being cheap and losing good players due to it but oh well. Maybe they will get lucky in draft next year again even tho 1 of there biggest priority in the 1st or 2nd round next year should be to get a real #1 running back
@Anthony They need a situational bigger back that can catch and block. They dont need a world beater and Ekler is fine as RB1 he needs a good complement. Justin Jackson is nice for explosive plays but, this running back core is to small. How Larry Roundtree didnt crack this roster as RB3 is beyond me. He must be bad this year maybe can develop.
I was actually for letting Hunter go and was looking forward to the stop gap TE Cook but, man I was wrong on Cook. Hunter just missed to many games lately and hadn’t been dependable for most of his early career. Cant all be right can we lol? I miss Hunter. Either way moving forward Chargers wont be cheap they cant afford to be they gotta make a run and re make this defense but, they’ll be smart.
@SouthernBrick nah you’re big tripping. Ekler is not a true RB1 he’s just a great RB2 at best and that’s not up for debate. He doesn’t have the size to be a #1 we need a bigger back to can rush for a thousand yards or more a year and get those 3rd and 1’s and redzone tds’s that ekler has proved he’s not great at. Getting a back like that and pairing him with ekler would be amazing and like back in the day with the LT and sproles back field. Not trying to argue this just my opinion by the way and understand why you think ekler should be our #1 back but I would prefer a bigger one similar to former chargers Melvin Gordon or Ryan Matthews
@Anthony Running backs are a dime a dozen. When’s the last time a Championship has been won with a truly great runningback in the back field. I cant think of one recently. Ekler can easily amass 1,000 yards rushing if given the attempts he doesnt have many this season. Ekler does his damage in the passing game and has probably the most TDs on the team besides the QB.
You are seriously underestimating and devaluing what Ekler means to Herbert and this offense grossly. He can get 1,000 yards rushing this is probably the first decent offensive line hes had as RB1 and in the beginning of course he split carries with Gordon heavily. He is not a every down back or what you get is a Christian Mccaffery situation with a ton of injuries. I agree they need that same kinda Melvin Gordon size back that is an automatic 4-5 yard per carry back and can fall forward. That is a big serviceable back that doesn’t have to be nothing special. Do the dirty work get the hard yards and call it a day. Ekler is what he is one of the best all purpose backs in the league and that alone makes him RB1 IMO.

We have to open up the playbook (when needed) to not be predictable in this game, no vanilla offense, send guys in motion and create confusion on the defense , get Guyton and Williams out there on some deep balls! His play calling puts Herbert in a hole constantly. Good thing Herb has nerves of steel and performs on 3rd down, but no one can make it happen every time.

I just hope they don’t overcommit to the run.. they have to trust Herbs arm and his receivers. There have been some Hella conservative all run possessions recently. I think they should start the game passing the ball!

Think important for line to protect well this week. Hopefully, as game goes on Justin gets to open it up a bit & play a bit looser. Think good to design a couple plays that he gets to run a couple times to introduce another threat for them to deal with. Think that would open up the passing game even more. Go offensive, play you’re hearts out & I think we will take this game. Keep pressure & get to Carr & we got this.
